There are many ways to jazz up your front entry. I’ve written about curb appeal, painting your front door a colour and painting ugly bricks. But an easy simple thing you can do right now is grab some pots and put them by your entry. They will instantly transform the space and create a welcoming feel.
Some plant ideas to fill the pots –
- Fiddle leaf fig in a geometric pot (I’d personally be very careful with a fiddle outside being exposed to the elements. A fakey might work better if you want that look).
- A Lilly Pilly topiary of any kind will be hardy and green all year round.
- Lavender works well for that pop of colour.
- A citrus tree looks excellent. A kumquat brings good wealth I am told!
- Succulents in bowls and stands grouped together looks amazing.
- Ferns in planter boxes are great if you want something low either side of your door.

I agree, they do usually provide a welcome. Except for when I had a large lovely large potted plant at my front door, and I so vividly remember the time the census collector came to the front door, and our cat had done its business in the pot. The stench – it was so embarrassing. Needless to say, after that episode I put pebbles in the pot, so that didn’t happen again 🙂

I went to a nursery in Yarralumla today ❤️❤️❤️ (be still my beating heart).
Ohhhh the variety AND they had beautiful pots. I especially loved the ones that looked weathered like they had moss growing then picked off look.
Definitely, absolutely going back there. Cashed up. They were a little on the rich side but *GASP* I prefer it better than Peards

The roses? Or the in hedges? The hedges with flowers are escallonia and the little hedges under the roses are tom thumb (but they don’t flwoer). X

Hi Katrina,
I’m wondering what you would suggest for my front porch. It faces south but we live near the Gippsland Lakes in Victoria so it is very windy. I have a timber bench seat under the lounge window which could do with a paint. The brick is red/grey with a light colour paint trim and window frames. I have a large deep green pot which wasn’t bought for this spot, and I have a beautiful red geranium in it, but that always gets attacked by grubs. I would love any suggestions you would like to give me.
