Floor Plan Friday: Parent’s retreat upstairs

I stopped at this plan today mostly because of the facade. I loved the little window on top and discovered it to be the master bedroom with WIR and ensuite. I could hide up there for sure! I liked the layout of the house overall. I would need the 4th…

Cheap hack👇🏻 I’ve always been a bit budge Cheap hack👇🏻

I’ve always been a bit budget-conscious, especially when it comes to home renovations! That’s why, when it came to finding the perfect handles for my kitchen, I decided to go the DIY route instead of splashing out on expensive ones. And, to my surprise, it turned out to be a fantastic decision! Not only did I save $$, but I also ended up with something unique and personal.

So, here’s how I did it. I bought some picture frame moulding, which is surprisingly affordable and comes in various designs. Then, I measured and cut it into 200mm lengths – this size seemed perfect for a comfortable grip. To give them a more finished look and to protect the wood, I applied a clear sealer. It also brought out the natural beauty of the timber, which was a nice touch.

And voilà! Just like that, I had my very own custom handles. They’re incredibly simple yet make a huge impact on the overall look of the kitchen.

Now, for installation: If you’ve got a new kitchen, just drill holes in the back of the cabinet doors and fix the handles in place. It’s straightforward and ensures a strong hold. But, if you’re updating an existing kitchen and replacing old handles, here’s a nifty trick – just use super glue. I promise they will fine.

You could do this on wardrobes or vanities too. 🔨

Adding stakes to your plants can work wonders👇🏻

Stakes provide the necessary support for your plants to grow upwards, encouraging a more robust and healthy development.

🔍 How to Do It:

• Find a stake that’s appropriate for the size and type of your plant.
• Secure your plant to the stake but be gentle. Avoid tying it too tightly, as this can damage the stem.
• As your plant grows, adjust the ties and the stake position to ensure optimal support.

💡 Pro Tip: You can use various materials for stakes—bamboo, wood, or even metal, depending on your plant’s needs and your aesthetic preference.

Happy gardening! 🌼🌱
Ever wondered if you can use VJ in bathrooms? We Ever wondered if you can use VJ in bathrooms?

Well, the answer is yes! I’ve personally used James Hardie Easycraft Wet Area Panels and Axon External Cladding in my projects. You can find both of these at Bunnings.

They’re a fantastic alternative to tiles and can even help you save a bit of money. Just a heads up though, these aren’t suitable for direct splash areas like the inside of the shower. They work best on the opposite walls.

And a little tip from me – you’ll need to wet-seal around the base and cover it with skirting tiling. Also, considering these sheets are quite thick, I’d recommend removing the old cornice and fitting a new one for a cleaner, more polished finish.

Have you considered using them? Great for a DIY project!
I’ve done it a few times and while it’s not th I’ve done it a few times and while it’s not the most fun… YOU CAN do it!

Navigating through a renovation while staying at home can be a challenge, but with the right strategies, it’s definitely doable.

Here’s How to Manage:
• Designate ‘Safe Zones’: Establish areas in your home that are off-limits to renovation work, where you can relax and escape the dust and noise.
• Plan for Functional Spaces: Ensure that at least one bathroom and a makeshift kitchen area are always accessible.
• Schedule Wisely: Align heavy work with your schedule. Prefer quiet hours? Discuss this with your tradies.
• Stay Organised: Keep your essentials accessible and store away non-essentials to minimise clutter and stress.
• Safety First: Especially important if you have children or pets. Ensure tools and hazardous materials are stored safely.
• Expect Some Discomfort: Be mentally prepared for some inconvenience - it’s a temporary phase before your dream space comes to life!

Living on-site during a renovation might seem daunting, but it’s a great opportunity to closely monitor progress and make real-time decisions. Plus, think of the stories you’ll have to share once it’s all done!
