You know that old saying, ‘A change is as good a

You know that old saying, ‘A change is as good as a holiday’? Well, I decided to put it to the test by giving my fence, gates, and shed a much-needed makeover. And guess what? I discovered the magic of an airless spray gun!

For those who haven’t seen my backyard, it was a bit of a patchwork quilt of colours – think silver in some spots and green in others. Quite the eclectic mix!

So, armed with my new spray gun, I started with the fence. Let’s just say, the first few moments were a bit wild (sorry about that, dear fence). But no harm done! I quickly got the hang of it. Pro tip: a huge piece of cardboard behind the fence saves your neighbours from a surprise paint job (and minimises overspray). Plus, I could reach the very top of the fence – no spot left untouched!

Fast forward three years, and the paint hasn’t budged. It’s stood the test of time beautifully! If you’re curious about the transformation, check out my backyard highlights. You’ll see it’s not just the fence that got a facelift.

To all the novices out there thinking, “Can I really do this?” – absolutely, you can! I was a complete beginner (I look awkward in this video 😂). If you’re wondering about the spray gun I used, all the details are in my highlights under ‘spray gun’.

Let’s settle this once and for all. When you’re staring at a wall wondering if it’s holding up more than just your family photos, who do you call? A builder. That’s right, a bona fide, tool-wielding, hard-hat wearing builder. Not just any guess you conjure up. Not your mate Dave who once fixed a leaky tap and now thinks he’s Bob the Builder. And definitely, I repeat, definitely not Google or those Facebook groups.

I’m in a few of those groups, and every time I see the question pop up, I’m astounded. And the answers? Oh, they’re a treat! People who probably think a stud finder is a dating app. Just don’t ask Facebook 😂

Always ask a builder. If they shrug at your question, well, they’re not the builder you’re looking for. Stay safe, stay smart, and for goodness’ sake, ask a professional!

And don’t be one of those people on Facebook 😂😂

I’ve had plenty of walls moved, taken out, beams put in… but I’ve always consulted with the pros. Because you can technically knock any wall out as long as you know how to support it and hope your ceiling doesn’t cave in!
