Does your bedside table accumulate with clutter? Or do you have a pile of books you’ve been meaning to read, which keeps getting taller by the week?

Remove the clutter and style your bedside table to make your bedroom more welcoming and comforting.

Here are some tips on how to style your bedside table. There is no right or wrong way to style your bedside, but there are some tricks to getting the look right, without it looking like another surface of clutter.

Remove the clutter

Bedside tables are functional as they offer a surface for the necessities (lamp, room spray, hand cream), but they can also hide the clutter which often accumulates on the surface (tissues, books, random bits of paper). Remove the clutter and if you have a chest of drawers, use the top drawer to hide the clutter so your stylish favourites can be put on display.

If you use a stool or table, use baskets to hide any must haves, under the bed.

Size and Proportion

Group décor pieces in groups of three. This will provide a balanced look, and is easy to achieve for the most simplest of decorators.

The most common pieces to display on a bedside table are a lamp, plant or vase of flowers and framed photo of your loved ones.

Two books piled on top of each other with a plant or crystal on top can give visual effect to the vignette you style on your bedside.

Size is important when grouping items in threes. Start with one high piece (lamp) and a mid-height piece (plant) and a smaller decorative piece like a crystal to keep your proportions balanced.

Décor pieces to consider for your Bedside Tables

If you’re unsure of what pieces to display on your bedside, here is a list of décor accents to consider. The key to a well styled bedside table is less is more. Keep it functional, but also have fun with displaying pieces which evoke calm and style in the bedroom

  • Lamps
  • Candles
  • Plants
  • Framed artwork
  • Piled books (maximum 3)
  • Crystals
  • Small tray
  • Vase of flowers
  • Room Spray

Make it personal

Personalise your bedside table to make the space lived in, but most importantly, your own. You may opt for flowers, instead of a plant or a Himalayan salt diffuser, instead of a candle.

Rearrange when needed

Styling a bedside table is easy to change up as the seasons change or if you’re requiring a different look in the bedroom. Swap décor from one bedside to another. Replace the flowers with a plant, or the pile of books with a notebook and pen.

You may decide to have pendant lights installed, which removes the need for lamps. Why not lean some artwork on the wall to give visual height to your styling.

You will sleep and relax better with a styled bedside table

Being intentional on the pieces you display on your bedside table, may offer health benefits.  You may sleep better or be able to relax easier. Indoor plants are said to clean the air in your home, so imagine what they can do in your bedroom.

Essential oils (like Lavender Peace) in a diffuser can also improve sleep and prompt relaxation.

The benefits to styling your bedside table may offer health benefits you may not have realised. Gotta love that.
