I was so excited to make it through to the final 8 couples for The Block! This was massive! My sister and I decided to make a short 5 minute video for our audition (part of the requirement) before Christmas. We’d roped my husband and our mother in to helping us (oh, and my Dad did some editing). So it was a real family affair. It started as a bit of fun and we never thought anything would come of it. We sent the video in and really forgot about it. We enjoyed Christmas with our families, I moved house and we just got on with normal life.
Then out of the blue we recieved a phone call from a casting agency asking us to come to Sydney in 2 days time! OMG! Yes, yes yes. We would be there. We had no idea what would be expected of us. We managed to fumble our way through the day. It wasn’t hard, just a series of questions whilst being filmed. We knew the tape would be sent to the producers and Channel 9. I had no idea what they wanted, but they obviously did!
We waited to hear about our fate for about 4 weeks….. and LOOK here we are! We’re on tv! Those that know me, or have read my blog for the last 5 years know that I am an average Mum who has 3 little boys and a hard-working husband. We live in Wagga Wagga NSW and we never go to the city. There is definitely nothing fancy or special about me! I guess I just represent the average mother just trying to get through life and raise my children the best way I can…
In between our Elimination Challenge we got to have so much fun. We were well taken care of. Of course you’ve seen all the ads, photos and biographies. The team at Channel 9 kept us very busy! I have never done anything like this in my life! I mean, all the photography, running through an imaginary game board, slamming down a hammer (and lots more that you are yet to see!) in front of a massive green screen was something I will never forget. However, I will be happy to see the back of that pink top and full blow wave I received – that was dismal! Haha!
So the promotional side of The Block was sensational and I enjoyed every second of it. I probably met 50 new faces in this time. This was a massive production in itself.
Whilst all the promotional stuff was going on, we didn’t really get to talk to any of the other 7 couples. So Amie and I could only make judgements on them based solely on first impressions! Boy, where we wrong with some of them (in a good way!).
Ok, let’s skip to that day at The Langham in Melbourne (you all saw us lined up there last night). This was my first taste of proper TV. Behind Scott Cam was at least 50 people, a mini crane with a camera attached to it and so many other cameras, producers and sound people. This was AMAZING! This was where I learnt about “wide shots” and “cut-aways”…LOL.
When Scotty announced that we would be competing for our spot on The Block my mind was racing. What would they get us to do? I knew it would be design based and I knew it would be fast paced. When the challenge teams where announced I instantly knew we would be up against the twins! It made sense – Sisters vs Sisters.
Now, as much as I’d like to tell you EVERYTHING, that would spoil it! So you’ll have to watch Amie and I battle it out against the twins on Thursday night in our Elimination Challenge and see whether we make it all the way. It will be a ripper! Amie and I laugh, stress and I know there are some real doozies on there!
Feel free to ask me anything about my journey up until this point and I’ll try to answer as best I can. In the meantime, read my BIO, follow me on FACEBOOK and TWITTER (I tweet live throughout all the episodes).
