Shower and bath combined (wet room)

It’s not common to see a shower and bath combined (or a wet room as they are called), but when you do see them pop up I love how well they are done.

WET ROOM – a bathroom in which the shower is open or set behind a single wall, its floor area being flush with the floor of the rest of the room and the water draining away through an outlet set into the floor.

I have a few photos below of a bath and shower together in one room, then I also threw in a couple of photos of the shower over the bath so you can see the difference.

A wet room is a great option for smaller bathrooms and if you don’t have enough wall space (eg. window placements in the way).

One of the biggest advantages of installing a wet room is the cleaning. If you have a hose on your shower head you can grab it spray around the bath or any hiding spots. Plus any household cleaners can be spray all through the bathroom as the whole area is deigned to be ‘wet’.

Wet rooms pack a punch in the design world. They certainly add a wow factor to your home. A wet room can feature different materials such as wood, stone and concrete, and you can add a lot of creative flare to this design.

Also, as another option you can have the shower OVER the bath. This is especially good if you are starved for space and layout ideas. It’s not as mobile friendly as you need to step in to the bath, but still a great option and you can use your creativity effectively if done right.

We built a house 5 years ago and did the wet room style with freestanding bath, similar to the first photo. Looks good, and is a really efficient use of space.

Hi, just wondering what dimensions you would recommend for space for shower when being placed next to a freestanding bath ???

Hi Katrina, gorgeous pictures! We’re looking at installing a bathroom to the same layout at image two in this feature (with the pink towels – dreamy) however, our plumber has suggested that water around the sides and back of the free standing bath will be a nightmare to clean and that we’ll likely end up with scummy water sitting there, what do you think? We won’t be able to physically get around the sides and back of the bath to clean but I was hoping standing at the front with a good spray and a long squidgy to move the water out once or twice a week would do the job, have you any experience of this layout?
