Feng shui literally means connecting people to their environment where we can live in harmony with our surroundings.
It means WIND and WATER and is the ancient Chinese art of placement. Water and wind (breath) flows through everything. This flow of energy is called ch’i.
Ch’i brings all living things to life and circulates throughout the spaces we occupy.
Without ch’i (without breath) there would be no life.
I like to use Feng Shui to enhance this flow of energy in my home.
There are 5 simple things you can do to keep the energy flowing in your own home…
1. Clear your clutter
Your house is like a sponge, and it holds on to bad energy when you have too many things surrounding you. Clutter can affect you physically and emotionally. It brings the eyes down, scatters your thoughts and stirs up negative feelings. You need to be solid in your decision when it’s time to edit everything around you. If furniture and items can hold on to negative energy, then it’s time to start a big declutter in your home or office. Kitchen benches need to be clear. So do your work spaces. Negative energy needs things to hang on to, so keeping your home clutter free you’re not giving it a chance to hang around!
2. Welcome the Ch’i
Create a strong front door and welcome the Ch’i through the front door. Creating good chi (the universal word for good energy) through our front door is what helps our home get nourishment. A good strong front entry gives a better quality of energy for those who live in the house. This means it’s clear from clutter, it’s welcoming, there are no shoes out the front, it’s easy to come in and out of and the colour can even make a difference.
3. Use Ch’i enhancers
Use these basic Feng Shui tools to activate the ch’i your home:
- Greenery – Plants add colour, life, oxygen and positive energy to your home.
- Music – Soothing sounds or music evokes feelings of warmth and joy.
- Crystals – From the large geodes to the small tumbled stones, each of these gemstones and their meanings have a balancing, positive effect on your body and mind.
- Mirrors – Enlighten and expand a room by helping to move ch’i around the space.
4. Set a positive intention
By setting an intention or making an affirmation you will focus on a goal or desire that you wish to fulfil. Write something out that you wish to accomplish or see happen. For example, if you wish to manifest more money or a better job, then write down what you desire, fold the paper up and place it in the money corner of your home. You can read more about Feng Shui and money over here.
5. Do a space clearing
Smudging your sacred space, your home or office, or even your body with sage is like taking an energetic shower, or doing a deep metaphysical cleansing. The smoke from dried sage actually changes the ionic composition of the air, and can have a direct effect on reducing our stress response. Use white sage to burn out all the bad areas. Don’t forget to get in to the corners and mirrors where bad energy can linger.
