1. Always clean top to bottom
Knock down the dust from top to bottom. Use an extendable cleaner if you need to. Even get the vacuum up there.
2. Divide the room
Start by cleaning the worst section of the room and moving on from there. It’ll make the rest of the room seem like a breeze. So for me, I always tackle the kitchen first.
3. Use the dishwasher
There are so many things you can clean in the dishwasher!
- Exhaust fan covers
- Sponges/brushes
- Microwave turn table
- Refrigerator shelves
- Pots and Pans
- Vases
- Light fixtures
- Powerpoint covers
- Desk accessories
- Soap holders
- Hairbrushes
4. Steam the microwave
To loosen up the stuck-on pieces, place a cup filled with water in the appliance and run it for 3 minutes to allow steam to form. Filling your microwave with steam will loosen the stuck-on residue. Then, all you have to do is wipe it away and your microwave cleaning is complete!
5. Look after your cleaning supplies
If you have good and ‘clean’ cleaning supplies it will make your job much easier. Make sure you update your cloths, sponges and spray bottles every few months. Ensure your vacuum is working properly (clean the filters often). Get yourself a mop with a washable head.
6. Keep all your tools in one place
Carry everything in one basket/tin. It’s easier to keep everything together. You’ll also know what products you’re low on and need to replace.
7. Microfiber cloth is your best friend
Microfiber clothes are an incredible fabric and can hold a lot of water. You do not need to add chemicals to the cloth to clean.
- Naturally clean mirrors
- Clean shower screens
- Stainless steel – fridges, ovens, glass, stove-tops
- Taps, handles, powerpoint switches
- Wipe walls
- Pool glass
- Dusting
8. Move furniture
Most of us spot clean around things, but every now and then moving your furniture will really make a difference. Instead of pushing dirt around, your house will always stay cleaner for longer if you take care of what’s under and behind your furniture. Moving the couch and beds often will surprise you with what’s been hiding under there!
9. Clean in natural light
So you can see what’s hiding. We’ve all been there, mopped the floors at night only to wake in the morning and see all the spots you’ve missed. It just means you have to do everything twice.
10. Make the most of your vacuum
Use all of your vacuum’s attachments – dust with it, clean your window tracks, clean your skirting boards, door frames… the list goes on! You’ll be surprised with what you can clean with your vacuum. The best thing is that it’s sucking up the dust, not pushing it around.
