Here we go kids, another APP to look after! But I think I like this one.
It’s called VINE and is Twitter’s newest creation. People are calling it the video partner for Instagram (but Instagram is owned by Facebook, and Vine is owned by Twitter – still with me?)… Anyhoo, this little baby might be fun! Or boring, because you can’t add filters and crop out the yucky bits (which we all do, admit it!). It’s a warts and all video APP with sound.
Ok, so how does it work?
It’s a brief 6 second video. It’s a bit like a blinking advertisement in our sidebars – but it’s video.
So you build a Vine by shooting little bits of video on the run. It’s broken in to 2 second lots. Hold your finger on the screen for 2 seconds (record that), put the phone down, grab another 2 seconds from another angle… and so on. Don’t forget there is sound!
It’s likely to be choppy, a little sloppy, imperfect. But it’s immediate. The next step is not to edit but to share – on Twitter, on Facebook, and on Vine itself, which for now will be a standalone app with its own community (think Instagram) rather than a baked-in Twitter feature.
For now, though, it’s available only on the iPhone and iPad touch. You can’t add pre-recorded video and you can’t edit it. No filters. Just video on the fly.
So, I’m off to my new house today to make you a few Vine’s. I’ve added one REALLY REALLY boring and awful video already. But practice makes perfect!
We could easily do a VINE-A-DAY challenge. I bet someone is writing a list now as we speak… ok, don’t steal that idea 😉
Oh, it’s links straight from your twitter account too, so I am keeping all of my handles the same: @katrinas_tweets if you want to follow me.
Have fun! X
PS. It can be a little slow to load and try not to look at the Explore option too much as the APP is still having censoring issues. Teething problems…

So glad to be aboard this bandwagon, Katrina! I reckon it could be a lot of fun. I’m thinking through what boundaries I want to set, though. I’m edging away from videos with the children, for instance. J x
