My sister and I have had a long running joke that we think our Mum is obsessed with polar fleece (Mum reads my blog so she will be raising an eyebrow at this point!). She has lots of polar fleece jumpers and vests. And sometimes when she’s really cold, I’ve seen her do “double polar fleece” with the jumper and the vest over the top. She doesn’t wear them out and about – just at home.
Last week I had lunch with 2 friends and somehow we got on this subject. Yep, BOTH of their Mother’s do the same thing – wear polar fleece at home.
One friend sent me random photos of her mother during the week wearing polar fleece. I’ve been laughing all week! There was the red one, the navy one….
Yesterday I had lunch with above friend AND her Mother. We started talking about it because her Mum said her daughter was so disrespectful snapping photos of her polar fleece and sending to me (she was joking and laughing!).
They must all be on to something. I mean, 3 of our Mother’s wear polar fleece at home!
Is your Mum always telling you “you can’t be warm in that?” Why do they always know best? Why are they always sensible with their spencers, polar fleece, warm jackets?
I buy things because they look good – I barely consider if they are warm enough!
But, I’ve relented and I think I need to buy some polar fleece for home. You’re going to roll your eyes here – but I don’t wear tracksuits out of the house 😉 I’m a diva, I know!
They’re on a good thing here, we’ve discovered. We are turning in to our Mum’s! They are too sensible.
Today is the first day of Winter, so what do you do to keep warm during these months? Ugg boots? Thermals? Snuggies?
…
Update: Â Mum texts me at 9am…Â “Yes, I am reading your blog. Yes I love my polar fleece at home. On hols I bought the best trackies. Yes they polar fleece. The sales lady said she can’t get out of hers. I also got a new zip up jacket in aqua. Mum’s are built for comfort thesedays. Gotta love a good polar fleece. Funny x” Â

I’m sure you could find some leapord print polar fleece if you looked hard enough lol
Katrina
You’re right! It’ll be out there somewhere 🙂
Sally
Katrina, you won’t regret it! Polar fleece is the best – there is nothing warmer! I wear uggs at home too. xo
Sarah B
Whilst it’s not particularly stylish, polar fleece is unbelieveably cosy! My mum wears quite a lot of it and I do wear a bit, mostly those fitted jackets. Ive got oneof those vests too, but I keep forgetting I own it. Might drag it out…
Danielle
I have to say I don’t have any reason why I would want to rush out and buy polar fleece, unless they made it prettier 😛
I don’t even own tracksuit pants!
Kira
My mother wears polar fleece too! I don’t even own anything polar fleece. To keep warm at home I live in my tracksuit and uggies. When I go out all of that stays at home and I work on the layers – singlets under tops, cardigans, a warmer coat, a scarf, nice thick tights or jeans and boots!

Well Katrina polar fleece are my best friend Never thought I would say that but now I say where have you been all my life, so warm, dry quickly ,not heavy .Nothing like it my good jumpers and Wool Jackets only come out for specil .. OMG I am my mother never thought I’d say that either…
chelle@geeyourebrave
Snuggies – definetely NOT in our house but Ugg Boots, absolutely!
I love good trekking polar fleece which gives you the warmth without the bulk. You just need to find yourself some leopard print polar fleece!
Heather
hehehe I love your comment about why you buy clothes. I also buy for pure looks and not practicality – this is why I’m stuck wearing gorgeous Witchery shirts and wondering how I am going to breastfeed in them!
No snuggies in this house…and no ugg boots either, my husband wears shorts all year round with hoodies. I don’t think my kids or I own any polar fleece either. I am very fond of Kathmandu polar fleece, they seem to meet practical style and warmth!
Shelley
hahah your mums a pissa! I havent got any polar fleece but i need some. your mum’s right it must keep you warm and our house is freezing! Oh and I have been quilty of wearing my trackies to nick to the shops, i’m so not a diva. More like a dag 🙂
Cate P
I do not own a single piece of polar fleece, but I am embarrassed to say my husband does.
Oh crap, he’s an old woman…
Kathryn
Whilst I too do not wear trackies outside of our house, I do love a bit of ‘good’ polar fleece, but it’s got to be the good stuff (ie Kathmandu or NorthFace etc..), not tackie crap from BigW. I think once you get towards the ominous age of 40 you start going for comfort and warmth….and when your kids are playing sport at 8am on a Sunday morning, nothing beats polar fleece. Oh, and people think Ballarat is a freezing, cold place….it is, so polar fleece all the way baby!
Red Roses and Crystal
Hell yeah I’m sitting here in my hot pink polar fleece vest (at home) and swear by them Katrina even for Brisbane. Contrary to what people think we do experience chilly winters up here.
I was brought up to wear sensible vests etc ( grew up in Sydney) so I wouldn’t get a chill in my kidneys!
Old habits die hard.
xx
Nik
You crack me up … You don’t wear trackies outside of the house but are more than happy to wear your pjs!
Katrina
Hahah not out in public – hide in car! 😉
Michelle Hayward
Ok I’m a polar fleece girl. I admit, I’ve crossed over! I am guilty of wearing leopard print ones (there’s a pic on my Instagram!) In fact, I’m wearing them right now. I’ve been in and out most of today and I couldn’t wait to get home and put them on. They are super warm and uber comfortable! LOVE LOVE LOVE them! I also have a polar fleece jacket I live in 😉
Jo from Brisbane
No polar fleece here but I do love a bonds hoodie around the house or over gym gear.
In winter I wear boots and a trench coat over my work clothes, sometimes a scarf.
Yes it is getting cold, last weekend I was bridesmaid at a wedding in Kyogle and the reception was held in a marquee on a farm. No, a light wrap is not enough to keep you warm in a halterneck cocktail dress.

In the UK you see some great polar fleeces. Ones with Wolves on, Owls, Scottie dogs. WRONG!
Ness Lockyer
Yup, my Mum too! I wear cable knit boot slippers at home which are soft and lined with sheppskin…SOOOOO snuggly, other than that jersey pants and a jumper is my home attire.

I went to a wedding two weeks ago, it took me about 6 weeks to work out all the details of my outfit. My mother-in-law turned up in a polar fleece. Sigh.

Layers of wool mixes. Metalicus layering. Gave up the polar fleece at home when kids started school. I’m a “layerer” these days, and I have about 6 coats too! Mx
Sarah
Polar fleece wearer over here. Loooove it at home, so snuggly 🙂 Though it doesn’t leave the house.
