That first night

Boy were we overwhelmed!
See how we woke up after that first night (the mattresses were delivered after we chose our rooms – the power of editing!) in the front room with me yelling this is a “shithole”? Well I had only fallen asleep at 5am and by this time it was 6.30am. I spent most of the night sitting up in bed struggling to catch my breath. Seriously, I think I was having a panic attack. Amie got a fright because I could not control my emotions. Here also started the downfall of my crohns disease (long-time followers of me will know all about this). I spent a lot of that night running through that hallway and outside to the shared toilets. It was a scary night. I do briefly talk about it on page 23 of this week’s Woman’s Day.

This was also life changing for us as we had to get used to at least 30 people watching us for a whole 8 weeks! This was just as hard as the renovating in the beginning. The cameras always wanted to know what you were doing and how you were feeling…

Once the sun was up and we were up Amie and I set about calling 2 x builders. We had been given their names from friends of friends and didn’t know them at all.
No, we didn’t hire 12 builders! In fact, all of those men in that room were window, internal door and wardrobe men supplied to ALL of the contestants. It’s just that they all seemed to land in our room and wanted to give advice. Was hilarious! So in the end we only hired 1 builder (as you’ll see).
So we spent the next 2 days ripping the walls out. Our builder helped and then left us to it. We could do that part easily enough.
In this time, Amie and I realised our limitations. We never claimed to have any tradeskills so therefore, as 2 women we learnt very quickly that we had to ask for help and everyone was always willing to lend a hand. For example, Josh was so nice in offering to move that oven for us! He was sweet and as you’ll see, we do help each other when we can.
I can’t wait for you all to watch the first challenge episode! Yes, I cried when I met Shelley! IF I KNEW I WAS MEETING HER I WOULD HAVE DRESSED UP A BIT!!!!! Lol. She is as adorable and lovely in real life.

Anyway, today I am off to see Shelley here.
Enjoy the show tonight.
PS. You must use the word ‘inconspicuous’ more often as it really does make you sound smarter.
PPS. Please show your messages of support on The Block’s Facebook page. We need a little love over there as some people can get nasty! I wish I could stick my finger up at them!

PPPS. See A-M‘s post today. Loved it!

Katrina if those people have nothing nice to say on your Facebook page, they shouldn't say anything at all

Oh you poor thing, what a night … I think you are both naturals on telly. xo

I loved the show. My husband said he would only watch it with me if you were singing. Being from Melbourne I can't believe you ditched the fire place but I am sure there is some amazing idea behind it all. Can't wait to see… Hope the flowers from Aimies husband put a smile on both of your faces, that was really sweet. 😉

How could people be mean about you two? They must have lost their sense of humour. I am really enjoying the block. I wish it was an hour every night.
The flowers made me cry but I managed to wipe the tears away inconspicuously.

    Have a great day.

It is so interesting getting the behind the scenes explanations from you. I am loving the show, you two are such characters. Don't listen to facebook comments, those people are not worth the worry.
I have to say I was a little sad when the fireplace came out last night as I loved the look of it. Can't wait to see how it pans out 🙂

They are oly being nasty on the FB page because they are jealous. That's my view on it 😉

Loved the episode last night, had quite a few giggles over things you two said. Loved the "you need a note from your Mum saying your sick" and lol at inconspicuous….. 😀

I nearly died when the fireplace was removed and waiting to see if it reappears later in the week.

I loved last night's show too – so exciting to finally be in the block ( I wasn't keen on the prefab episodes ), and it looked COLD !! I was sad about that beautiful fireplace too, but agree I can't wait to see what you do – great bones in those houses.

    xx

I think I would have had a panic attack too after seeing the house for the first time – I think you girls managed to look very composed. Loving the show so far and can't wait for the room reveals to start! my four bigger kids are hooked and have promised to keep their rooms tidy if I let them watch The Block every night – so thanks!

Oh Katrina I was so worried about your Crohns. I know how easily it can be flared up. And that kind of stress could certainly do it. I hope it got better for you lovely.
Ignore all those nasty FB people. I have noticed there is lots of support for you on Twitter, in blogs and we are all cheering for you on the Decorating forum too. Maybe we need to be wearing "Go Katrina & Amie" t-shirts lol.
