If you’re about to start building your dream home, one of the biggest decisions you’ll face is whether to go with a custom build or a volume builder. It can feel a bit like choosing between a made-to-measure outfit and something fabulous off the rack. Both can look amazing, but the fit, the detail, and the experience are completely different.

So how do you choose?

Let’s break it down.

Custom Build

A custom home is designed just for you. You can change layouts, handpick every finish, and work closely with your builder or designer to create something that suits your lifestyle perfectly. It’s ideal if you have a tricky block, unique needs, or a really strong vision for your home.

It takes more time and often costs more, but the result is a home that reflects you in every detail.

Volume Build

Volume builders offer pre-designed floorplans that you can choose from with limited changes. You’ll often get faster build times, competitive pricing, and a simpler process overall.

This is a great option if you want something solid, cost-effective, and relatively stress-free. You’ll still have options to personalise things like colours and fixtures, just not as much flexibility in structure and layout.

So, which team are you on?

Do you want full creative control and a home that’s completely yours?
Or would you rather keep it simple and speed things up with a volume build?

There is no right or wrong answer. It’s about your goals, your budget, and how involved you want to be in the process.

In my work, I’ve seen people go both ways and end up with beautiful, functional homes they love. The key is understanding what suits you. Not just your Pinterest board, but your timeline, your family, your stress levels, and your non-negotiables.

If you’re not sure where to start, I can help you work through the options. Whether you need help comparing floorplans, putting together a selection schedule, or just having someone in your corner to guide you through the process, I’m here.
