Ok, where are we? This week is THE week (apparently) where the plans are coming OUT of council… which means we can get some dirt turning on the block. Fingers crossed!
So what have I been deciding on this week? Apart from all the shopping I am doing (in my mind), I decided on my tiles. Grey. They’re grey. Done. And no feature tile. Just grey and white. Stylish and will last the test of time. I’ve locked that decision away. Thanks for all of your help too! I knew you’d all know what to do.
Now, on to floorboards… there’s another BIG decision.
I’ve had real floorboards, ones you sand, ones you don’t, floating floor and laminate. Every house we’ve had I’ve never had the same boards. I am picky and fussy. I’ve spent lots of money before and have been disappointed with the results. This time all I want is the right colour, for right price and ones my boys can run all over. Remember all your votes back here? Well, I think I’ve made a decision…
You’ll probably be surprised, but I have decided on laminate. Like these…
Of course it’s too hard to tell what they really look like in a photo from my iPhone. But I think it’s the winner. Laminate has come a long way… some of them look and feel fantastic. I’ve been living with samples under my feet in my kitchen all week. We’ve been walking on them, slopping food, dropping things – just to test them. This one above is the winner at the moment. I’ve been to every floorboard shop and looked online, but this little baby came from Bunnings!
Another decision ticked off the list. Next I’m off to finalise my kitchen…
Hope you’re surviving the school holidays. We’ve already had a smashed window, spent a tonne of money at the movies, I’ve had to top up the groceries and today they’re off to a rugby league clinic (4 hours of peace!). It’s never dull around here 😉
See you tomorrow!

Best way to test them is to live on them! They’re great! Don’t you love how technology keeps bringing us new and improved everything! It’s hard to keep up. By the time I start my next build, everything will be different again! Yeah, those holiday clinics are so good. My little one is off on his 2nd day at a computer animation workshop. 9am – 5pm and he can’t get enough of it. The serenity! A-M xx

They look so real now.
I am totally having floor boards in my next place. My husband will NOT have a choice next time.
Have you seen the new floor board look alike tile. VERY expensive!

My kids are eating EVERYTHING too.

I love the laminate I chose for our house (jarrah). When we were deciding on floors there were two MUSTS: child proof and easy to clean. Tick, tick.

Wednesday house update sounds like a great idea. That laminate looks fantastic. I love the colour, it will never date. We have laminate boards in our house and they are super tough, only reason we are replacing them is we’ve redone the kitchen and now there is a large empty spot where cupboards used to be. Love seeing your progress!

Boo, hubby won’t let me have floor boards in living areas this time because he always gets stressed when the kids/other people start trashing them. Have always had the real thing too (sand and polish). This time we are going bamboo but just upstairs (yes, I’ll have an upstairs this time) and in the study but he won’t let me have them anywhere else 🙁 I LOVE floorboards!

Love the colour of the one you have chosen……like, absolutely love it…….My only suggestion is after always having sand and seal floorboards we went with pre finished bamboo in the last house….I think you saw it at some stage…..anyway my point is the gaps collected sand from 1 child and 2 adults and it drove me nuts, nuts I tell you. If you have lived with pre-finished before and it didn’t bother you then ignore me and my Isssuews. The pre-finished is so cost and move in quicker effective though……hard one……. colour wise go for it, its gorgeous.
Wish upon a star
Just wondering if you have seen the prefinished solid maple- also in bunnings, it looks pretty good, very similar to that photo of the laminate and its click lock. I just think it would be a better long term product, we are getting it for our home 🙂

Love me some floorboards!
Our laminates that we put down in a couple of rooms came from Bunnings and they have been great. The main areas in the house (proper floorboards) all need to be sanded and refinished, will need to move out to get it done- hopefully next time we are on holidays!

Wow they look awesome! I can’t believe it’s laminate… Really like the darker wood colour too. Can’t wait to see more!

Yes I’ve done real floorboards and now have laminate tiles in living area with a rug in the lounge area. Its a mid brown colour and easy to live with. It doesnt matter what colour the flooring is – the rubbish on it seems to be a different colour!
Katrina
Hi, love the vinyl floorboards you chose – just checking to see how you have found them & if they have stood up well to everyday use. So so many choices! Thanks!
Colleen
Hi Katrina,
Sorry in advance as I’m sure you’ve answered a billion times before….but what was your final choice on the floors in your new house….from your pics, I’m presuming you changed from this laminate? We are about to embark on a Reno (kitchen plus replacing all the tiles) and would love to know what you chose and how things have gone durability wise (we have 4 boys ?) many thanks!! Colleen
Katrina
Hi! We did the spotted gum float timber floor 🙂
Tracey
Hi Katrina,
I love your floor boards. You said they are spotted gum, what flooring shop did you get them from in Wagga?
Cheers Tracey
