The Block 2024 - Week 11 Backyard Reveal

The interiors of their homes might be done, but the Block is far from over, with the backyard the first of two outdoor areas that have to be tackled.

So, from fun-filled family spaces to secluded gardens, with fire-pits, barbecues, swings and more, every combination of the great Aussie backyard was presented as the Blockheads went all out to get the last remaining $10,000 win that could help then wrap up their homes… so who would win?

1ST – House 2 – Courtney & Grant – 39/40

Courtney and Grant’s backyard impressed the judges with its well-thought-out design and attention to detail. Featuring a full outdoor kitchen with stylish cabinetry and a stone benchtop, the space immediately caught Shaynna’s eye. The carefully chosen plants, including lemon trees, olives, and bay leaves, added a natural charm that Dave loved. The outdoor area included a spacious deck, a pool with an outdoor shower, and a cosy firebox, all enhanced by additional features like a pizza oven and BBQ area. Dave praised the space for its flawless execution, calling it “ten out of ten.”

2ND – House 1 – Maddy & Charlotte – 37/40

Maddy and Charlotte’s backyard utilised the long space effectively, dividing it into distinct pool, play, and relaxation areas to cater to multiple guests. Dave was impressed by how well they integrated five separate zones, praising their design. Darren highlighted the thoughtful inclusion of heating panels and cooling fans to accommodate different seasons, while the stylish wall panels added a modern touch. Though Shaynna mentioned a stone benchtop would have elevated the design, the overall layout impressed the judges. Marty particularly loved the circular lounger, pizza oven, and well-chosen plants, with the half-court basketball area adding the perfect finishing touch.

3RD – House 5 – Kristian & Mimi – 35/40

Kristian and Mimi’s backyard featured a large, beautifully tiled pool, piers wrapped in rope for an island-inspired look, and curved decking with vertical risers. The space included a boat-themed dining and bar area with a generous table and chairs, giving it a resort-like feel that impressed the judges. Additional surprises included a fire-pit and a basketball court, large enough for a three-point line. Shaynna and Marty praised the well-thought-out design, but Dave questioned the absence of the barbecue the couple had won, joking that an Aussie backyard without a barbie just didn’t feel right.

4TH – House 3 – Ricky & Haydn – 32/40

Ricky and Haydn’s backyard was designed for fun and outdoor activities, with plenty of grass for kicking a footy or playing cricket, and a custom swing set for the kids. A local artist’s sculpture added a personal touch, while the large Plungie pool, surrounded by a generous deck and backed by a stunning tile mural, provided a space for relaxation. The judges loved the established gardens and the bar area perfect for holidaymakers. While it may not have been the most sophisticated design, it captured the essence of a fun, family-friendly backyard.

5TH – House 4 – Kylie & Brad – 27/40

‘Kylie and Brad’s backyard had plenty of potential, but it was clear budget constraints had impacted the final result. The large pool, one of the biggest on The Block, lacked proper decking and landscaping, with unfinished steps, empty pots, and brickwork missing render. However, the judges agreed that the private access to the tennis court was a big advantage, and the sheer size of the yard and pool remained impressive. The dark and moody motif, reflected in the black table and chairs, added some style, but overall the space felt incomplete and yet to reach its full potential.
