Today I thought I’d give bloggers a couple of tips on how to drive traffic to your site. I’ve been blogging for 9 years so I’ve learnt a lot and I’ve seen a stack of changes on how blogs look and work. I am always trying to get new readers too, so I often scan blog topics on how to improve my own reach.
The blogosphere is a big and busy world with over 200 million blogs and it’s growing. Starting a blog is easy – anyone can do that, but how do you actually get people to read it? There’s no easy fix or formula and it does take a lot of work.
The content you write is what will keep readers coming back for more. Make sure you have something meaningful to say to them and say it often to maintain their interest and keep them loyal. Write about things people will be interesting in. If you decide to write about a topic that nobody is interested in, you’re going to struggle to get traffic, no matter how good your content is.
How do you attract visitors to your blog?
Start a Facebook group that drives traffic to your site
I’ve noticed a huge change in the way people comment (and not comment!) on blogs anymore. I love to read blogs, but I am not the best at commenting. I know I need to connect with my niche, my readers and create a community, so a Facebook group helps me do that. Everyone is on Facebook, so I’ve found the best way to chat amongst “my community” is to do that on Facebook – then sprinkle my blog throughout the group.
Promote your blog posts to your email list
People don’t always remember to click over to your blog to read what you’re offering. But they are always checking their email. SO, send the blog post straight to them. It will remind them you’ve got something happening over on your blog worth checking out.
Work on your headlines
Headlines must be enticing and google worthy! They need to capture attention and make people want to keep reading. Here is the best tool to help you work out whether that headline will get noticed, or whether you can improve on it.
Publish blog content on a consistent basis
The web is flooded with blog posts, but you really need to write often to get noticed. If you want to create your own community of people, they will need to be offered something to read a few times a week, or they will forget about you. If you decide to blog once a day, or once week, then stick to that pattern. It can hurt your traffic if you decrease your frequency.
Ask questions to readers within your blog posts
Since commenting on blogs is on the decrease, to entice your readers to get involved in your post, you might like to ask them a question, or create a call-to-action. That is – where else can they get involved with you? Should they click to chat in your Facebook group? Should they follow you on Instagram? Ask/offer your readers to continue chatting with you somewhere.
Get Social
Make sure you’re pushing your blog post out all over social media! Seize the day. Flog it. The more you venture out into the world wide web and engage with others, the faster your following will grow and the more influence and authority you will have.
Make Sure Your Site is Responsive
51% of people read websites and online information via their mobile/tablet. So you’ll need a good responsive site. Don’t make it difficult for people to read what you’ve got to say, so check your site is mobile ready.
Competitions
Competitions/giveaways are a great way to get people involved in your site. It encourages them to comment and share. Everyone loves the chance to win something and it can really boost your traffic. TIP: Don’t forget to grab their email to add to your email marketing database.
