My question is – remind me please why I have Private Health Insurance?
Furious is how I feel today.
I NEEDED to see a particular Doctor (a specialist), but after years of dealing with him there is nothing gained by ringing his office direct. So, my usual course of action is to see my GP and get him to ring through to the specialist on my behalf. BUT today, my usual GP was unavailable, so was my ‘back-up’ one. So I groaned, but went with someone I do not know.
So of course nothing was achieved. She rang the specialist, as I requested, to be told I would have to wait a month to see him (???). Ok, I was not impressed because I don’t think I can wait a month! I think my usual Dr would have pushed further. But the new Dr said to me “go to the public emergency if you are really sick…”
Do you think that was a good idea?? I mean, I am not dying and I am not an emergency. AND after 14 years of knowing what I am talking about, do you know it would have taken me hours to explain to the public emergency hospital why I was there and what I wanted? They would have known nothing about what I needed and it would have been a waste of their time.
I see the specialist as a Private Patient and he makes great money from me!!! He has for years and years. Really, these Dr’s need to know when someone needs to see them!
So, today I am a little angry and hurt. We have no Private Emergency Hospital here in Wagga, so anyone who lives here knows you avoid the public system if you have private insurance.
Anyway, there is no real point in going on about it I guess. I will have to wait.
“It is what it is.” Just venting.

    Katrina.
    I am Hearing you, girlfriend.
    Like really hearing you.
I won't tell you about my crazed outburst concerning a similar thing recently.
    In regards to my mother.
    Won't even go there.
I still have a hoarse throat & am a little bit embarassed about my conduct.
But the other half of me thinks "Suck it up" they deserved it.
So vent away, love, vent away.
    It really is frustrating.
    Did
    Niki.

Blogging is great for a vent! I do feel for you – sometimes you just want to explode when you are presented with ridiculous situations. Why don't you smash a plate?

Give em some Katrina!!! Its up there with my pet hates!!

Michelle and I pay $400 a month in Private Cover so I get a tad toey when i don't get a fair go or a reasonable response in a reasonable time frame…. You might chuckle with me on this recent experence… I made a specialist appointment back in October on a referral from my local GP to see a Specialist Dr here in Brisbane for late January. (Its the earliest he could see me)… So the appointmet reminder comes up in my Iphone on the due date and I head off to see the Dr as arranged… I wait an hour in his rooms and eventually he escorts me in, sits me down and asks me "What can I do for you?"… I look at him blankly,…. ponder my navel for 20 seconds,.. before honestly proclaiming… "Mate, to be honest, Its been so long since I made the appointment that "I've bloody well forgotten!"….

…Fortunately he read my GP's referral and we got sorted from there… (No,he didnt diagnose Altzheimers!…)

    Hi Katrina
I saw on Twitter the specialist phoned. I hope that means you got an earlier appointment. It is horrible that you have to jump up and down to get some action from some people but sometimes it's necessary:(

    Hi Katrina,

We pay our annual private health insurance….and every time it comes due to pay I question it every time. A lot of people opt out of private cover and put the money into a special account, I suppose where they can't touch it and I understand that but it doesn't give you access to the specialists should you need one. My husband had a bad accident some years ago and I'm not game not to have it, as you just never know….and it was implied at the time that there could be complications even this far down the track. Anyway, hope your medical things sorts itself out. Have a good day tomorrow.
    Take care

Sounds like you have a very imperious Gate Keeper as the Specialist's receptionist Katrina, they do their Employer no favours. Time the whole Medical fraternity were educated on providing great Customer Service, just like any other business. You should mention your experience & displeasure to your Specialist when you see them, they often are totally unaware that this sort of behaviour is going on in the Front Office.

Took me 3 years on the waiting list for an appointment for my little one in the Paediatric Allergy clinic… finally diagnosed with a life threatening peanut allergy and got the EpiPen… been walking around without one for years…. life threatening… and being privately insured made no difference. Sucks. Totally. A-M xx
