Brought to you by ALDI Australia.
I’ve been very busy over the last week tidying up a few easy DIY projects I’ve been wanting to do around my home for ages. I wanted to create a little bit more storage in my laundry area, also under the kitchen sink, change over some ugly hooks in the bathroom and add a solar light to the side of my house. Today I am going to share these simple and budget-friendly tasks that anyone can tackle using ALDI Special Buys!
Now we all know ALDI is famous for its twice weekly Special Buys (Wednesday and Saturday). I get very excited when I can preview the products one week before they are in store via ALDI’s catalogue, e-newsletter, app and website. They add an element of surprise to the regular shop and this Saturday would have to be one of my favourites ever – it’s tool day! ALDI will be stocking their tables with affordable products to ‘Upgrade Your Home‘.
Come and check out the easy steps below on my 4 projects…
1. Under the sink storage
Isn’t she pretty? Ha! Jokes! What a mess. I bet yours isn’t much better? It’s such an awkward spot and a dumping ground. I really wanted to make it more usable. So, I decided to add a hanging rod and attach baskets up high to make the most of the space.
Here’s what I used:
- XFINITY 20V Brushless Drill Skin $49.99
- Workzone Cable Ties 500PC $4.99
- XFINITY 20V Angle Grinder Skin $39.99
- Workzone Assorted Drill and Bit Sets $7.99 each (includes HSS Drill Bit set, Brad Point Wood Drill Bit set, Masonry Drill Bit set, Flat Bit set, Screwdriver Bit and Socket set)
- Hanging rod, brackets and baskets that can be purchased from a hardware store at roughly $20
Steps:
- I used the grinder to cut the hanging rod down to size. This was only a 20 second job.
- Drill the brackets to the side walls. Another simple task.
- Then attach the baskets with cable ties, trimming off the excess and you’re done!

2. Swap towel hooks in bathroom
Now I know this hand towel ring doesn’t look bad, but I was a bit over them. Last year I upgraded my taps to black, so I thought it would be great to have black hooks too.
Here’s what I used:
- Workzone VDE Screwdriver Set 8pc $8.99
- Hooks that can be purchased from a hardware store at roughly $30 each
Steps:
- Screw off the old set with the medium Phillips head screwdriver.
- Screw on the new plate with a screwdriver to suit. This new plate needs a flat head. The screwdriver is so handy because it’s magnetic and the screw will sit neatly in place.
- Turn, turn, turn until it’s tight – this requires minimal effort as the handle is soft and easy to hold.
- So easy and I love the new look!

3. Attach outdoor Solar Light
Around the side of our house where the bins are kept it can be quite dark. I find taking the rubbish out painful when it’s dark and I always make someone else do it haha! I spotted this solar light in ALDI a few weeks ago and knew this would fix the problem in a matter of minutes!
Here’s what I used:
- XFINITY 20V Brushless Drill Skin $49.99
- Workzone Assorted Drill and Bit Sets $7.99 each
- A Solar Wall Light that can be purchased from a hardware store for approximately $12
Steps:
- Position the light where you think you’ll get the most coverage. I chose a corner.
- If using a solar light, don’t put it up too close to the eaves as it won’t be able to grab the sunlight to store.

4. Winter hanging rack
This was my favourite project! It was super easy and has made a big difference to how I use this room. Shamefully it was a huge mess. It’s a walk-in storage room off my laundry. During winter it becomes a massive disaster. I have never hung those winter sports jackets – just shoved them on a shelf and it was making me uneasy! I came up with the brainwave to add a simple hanging area in here. I was happy to forgo some shelves as they were just holding crap anyway.
Here’s what I used:
- XFINITY 20V Brushless Drill Skin $49.99
- XFINITY 20V Angle Grinder Skin $39.99
- Workzone Assorted Drill and Bit Sets $7.99 each (includes HSS Drill Bit Set, Brad Point Wood Drill Bit Set, Masonry Drill Bit set, Flat Bit Set, Screwdriver Bit and Socket Set)
- Hanging rod, brackets and coat hangers that can be purchased from a hardware store at roughly $15
Steps:
- I used the grinder to cut the hanging rod down to size.
- Drilled the brackets to the side walls. I have a very handy 15 year old who is always eager to do a project!
- So easy and now I have a much neater and easily accessible storage room.

Grab a couple of essentials from ALDI this Saturday 15 July (while stocks last). You can also find the XFINTIY 20V Impact Wrench Skin $99.99, LED Twin Security Light $24.99, and XFINITY 10W LED Portable Worklight $39.99.
