Ceiling fans are often treated as a finishing touch, but in an energy efficient home they are an essential part of keeping spaces comfortable. In a well insulated, airtight build, airflow helps regulate temperature and reduces reliance on heating and cooling. When chosen thoughtfully, ceiling fans quietly support lower energy use while making rooms feel just right year round.

Choosing Ceiling Fans That Suit a Sustainable New Build
For my new build, I wanted ceiling fans that complemented the calm, modern feel of the home while aligning with sustainability goals. The fans I chose are the Gaia fans from Fanco and they tick all the boxes. I wanted something that looked simple and modern but also supported low energy living.
Materials mattered as much as performance. The Gaia fans feature FSC certified timber blades, which felt like the right choice for a sustainable build. The motor housing is made from bio based plastic, helping reduce reliance on traditional plastics. Every detail was about supporting the energy efficient design of the home.
The Benefits of DC Motor Ceiling Fans
The Gaia fans use a DC motor, which is ideal for energy efficient homes. DC motors consume far less power than traditional AC motors while still providing smooth, steady airflow. In a well insulated house, this kind of gentle circulation keeps rooms comfortable without noise or draughts.
They also complement heating and cooling systems by helping air move evenly through the space, reducing the load on other energy systems. In short, they quietly do a lot of the heavy lifting while you barely notice they are there.

Comfort Is About More Than Temperature
Ceiling fans are not just about temperature they are about how a home feels. The Gaia fans sit quietly in each room, both visually and acoustically, contributing to a calm, considered atmosphere. That subtle presence helps the home feel complete, comfortable, and effortless to live in.

How the Gaia Fans Fit Into an Eight Star Home
An 8 star home relies on thoughtful choices working together. Insulation, ventilation, glazing, and airflow all play a role. The Gaia fans from Fanco fit perfectly into that system. While they
may seem like a small feature, they support comfort and efficiency every day, helping the home feel balanced and easy to live in.
