A bit of this.

If you’ve built a new house before you’ll know it takes a while to get things going…

This will be house build number 3 for us, so while I pretty much know the process of things, it’s the finances that take the longest to get sorted.

Banks are not what they used to be.

When we first built a house 10 years ago, I think finances were organised in about a week. Paperwork was minimal. But now, with the GFC and so many banks to choose from in the marketplace it can be confusing and hard work. My husband’s business has a hundred different areas to it, I’m self-employed… blah blah. Normally, we’d go to our credit union (my husband has been with this bank since he left school), but this time we’ve gone through a broker. Best idea ever (thanks A-M).

So I’m still waiting for the last of the paperwork to be finalised, but in the meantime, I have my block of land and some plans which have kept me busy sketching and changing and envisaging.

We’re not building the taj mahal, just an average family home (I still want to be able to comfortably buy my groceries and pay school fees each week!). But it’s going to be exciting though! 🙂

Stay tuned. Hopefully my plans can be finalised in the next month. So as soon as things all come together, we’ll be off and racing!

Yes, I’ll be blogging it all. After all, it’ll be you who’ll make all the decisions for me. You’re the best people to ask!

Hi Tania, I’ll probably do one with my own photos down the track. I won’t do an inspiration board because on the Pinterest T&C’s. I have some stuff in my Pinterest account at the moment, but guess I should take them down.

Oops! Maybe I need to read those again myself…
I look forward to seeing what you come up with,
particularly because we just built our house 2 yrs ago and it takes a while to get it together even after you move in! ;o)

hey katrina it all sounds very exciting and hope it all goes to plan for you, unfortunately im still no closer to our home we chose with you so long ago. I am just wondering do you recommend a broker to anyone cause the banks have now been our biggest problem, we have had so much trouble with everything to do with this house it really has been our biggest nightmare. Just when we thought we were finally on track the banks made it all fall in a heap again.

How excting, we’ve just had our plans finalized for a split level home and are meeting with a builder tonight to have it quoted up. So far my process started in October 2011, so I hope things move faster from here on! Looking forward to hearing about your build! 🙂

PS. I forgot to tell you that this morning while I was painting my son’s room (he’s 11) I found myself singing that song…
    “it goes on & on & on…”
I’m not even sure what it’s called but I do know where I’ve heard it before!!! ;o)

I have an architect friend who is designing a home in Wagga!

I love that you are building an average family home. We have always used a broker, she is awesome and we would never go direct to a bank as she does all the work for us.

Good luck and looking forward to seeing your work, hubby would love to build but little chance of that as he also like to live inner suburbs so renovating is as close as we will get.
