Today, I feel like blogging about blogging.
I feel like spreading some blogging cheer.
Who is feeling lost in the BIG sea of the blogging world? It can feel like that sometimes hey?
Yesterday I felt a little lost when a publicity company told me to keep up the good work and looks like I’m doing a great job blogging. HUH?
What did that mean? It was such a weird comment. I didn’t know I need affirmation.
This is my point.
Do we need affirmation? Maybe we do. Maybe we need someone to tell us we ARE doing a great job, no matter our statistics, followers, readers…
I got knocked back from that publicity company and I have no idea why. If they measure who they want to work with based on statistics, then I smash more than half of their current bloggers out of the water. I just didn’t get it.
But obviously I got knocked back for some other reason.
I started thinking (actually I thought about it all night)… I sort of got angry and wanted to write back to them and question their comment.
BUT what would that achieve?
So, I woke up today and thought what can I do to make the blogging world a better and more supportive community?
I can teach.
I can share.
I can encourage.
I can run my own race.
I can open my eyes.
AND…
I want you to know that you are doing a great job.
If you need help in an area, or get stuck, how can I help you?
I want you to know that I am happy to help you where I can. I don’t want to blog just for me. I want you to read my blog and feel happy to be here. I’m speaking a Blogopolis next month and I’d love to know if you’ll be there. Come and see me talk about blog design. Hopefully I give you some handy hints 🙂
Today, I want to share with you some of MY favourite blogs. I don’t get a chance to read them everyday, but when I can I’m locked in.
1. Homely One
3. Fun and VJ’s
6. Lona de Anna
7. Meg & Mum’s
You guys make fun blogging fun and real. Real people in the real world.
Oh, I have hundreds more in my Google Reader and feel bad I couldn’t add you all. BUT, if you’ve got a blog that needs a bit of loving, why not add it below in my comments section. Everyone LOVES discovering a new blog to read.
Happy Friday! I can’t wait for the weekend, it’s been a long week here. X

After blogging for about 9 months now, my mum said “nothing in this life is free, so why are you blogging for nothing back?” I did sit back and think, yeah why am I doing it? Proved to be a great exercise. I do it as my outlet to share ideas, I have met some pretty amazing people and created new blogging friends. I have also been lead back down my creative path and now looking for a career change, from sharing what I love I have gained better understanding of myself.
I also believe it’s not about the statisics but about how much you can engage you readers, and you definately have that! Xx
Katrina
Good on you! Yes I started out with little or no return in it. Now I do it to be creative and for a record for my boys. Everyone I know now reads my blog. Took me 5 years to convince them it was worth reading though! HA!
Cathy
Lol I have yet to convince everyone I know to read mine lol

It is very easy to get dispirited when you feel you are blogging into a vacuum 🙁
Katrina
“Blogging in to a vacuum…” I love it hahaha! Going over to read now 🙂
Katrina
I did try to comment twice, but it went blank. Maybe you have to approve it? I couldn’t see where though. Sorry!
Alistair at Secret Design Studio
Thanks Katrina, I do have to approve it, but your comment(s) haven’t come through yet….if there is an issue with some of reader’s comments coming through it may explain the vacuum effect!
Katrina
You know what – I reckon there could be a problem. Usually I can see what it would be but I was stumped. The comment vanished when I published and didn’t tell me anywhere that it was waiting approval etc…
Alistair at Secret Design Studio
Thanks Katrina – comment approved, just took a while to arrive in my inbox. You had me very worried there for a while – Alistair

I often feel that way when I see other bloggers invited to events or are given pr opportunities. It’s all swings and roundabouts though because today it’s my turn, and I’m off to a fun day out. Everyone loves validation and to be told they’re doing a great job…you just have to keep blogging what you’re passionate about, and finding your bloggy voice. At least, that’s what I’m trying to do. If any one wants to have a read, you can find me at http://www.lifasweknowit-blog.com where you’ll find me musing about family, craft and everyday possibilities. Cheers, Lis.
Katrina
Thanks for your comment Lisa – you;re always welcome here 🙂 Hope you had a great day!
Cathy
Love your blog Lisa!

Oh silly them!!!! I know exactly how you feel though, and I’d be feeling the same! I’ve been BLOGGING for years… well nearly four actually, and my newest Blog about my life with a large family has been going only since Aprl 29 and has already had over 1100 hits, and rising. It may not seem like a lot, but it’s more than I thought I would have at first. I thought maybe 2 or 3 friends would check it a day, but over a hundred views on most days are happening, so I guess I am doing something right. It’s early days, I’m not too stressed. People are reading my other blogs as well…and I’ll just continue on what I’m doing, even if I am talking to myself occasionally! 🙂
Today I blogged about Home schooling!
Thanks for sharing the LOVE!!!!!!!!
Donelle

Katrina
Aww thanks.

HI Katrina, what a lot of comments this post has generated! Thanks for including me in your list. I haven’t really been around much on twitter or blog land. I kind of lost my mojo and am waiting for it to come back. You are so very generous and you always make me laugh, or feel outraged. Happy Friday. Deb
Katrina
Get back in to it girlfriend!

Naaaaw you are just too gorgoeus for words. Thank you hon for the mention..and it was so great to see many of my favourites on that list too ; )
There is a quote that I stumbled across on Pinterest which I loved and thought I would share –
Work for a cause , not applause
Live Life to Express, Not to Impress
Dont Strive to make your presence noticed..just make your absence felt.
So long as you stay true to you…which you have always done ..right from the start..then the ending to this story is going to be amazing. We all know your a bright shining star …its just that everyone else hasnt stopped to stare at the night sky for long enough to notice…yet x
Katrina
I love it. It’s so true – saving that one xo

What a lovely post. I just started a blog a couple of months ago and have discovered there are THOUSANDS out there! I try and get around to other blogs that I like and comment because they’re just so interesting. I post mine to my FB friends 🙂 So here it is:

Jessica Pease
Come and have a look at mine and I would love to know what you like and don’t like about it. http://www.peaseexchange.com and my email is jessica@peaseexchange.com . Thanks for visiting.
Caroline
Thanks for helping me out with all my “bloggy” questions.
Niki
Awwww Thanks KC.
As far as I am concerned they are completely mental knocking you back. What I want to see & read when I sit down, is good, honest, lots of humour, real & a bit of eye candy thrown in. You have all that. That is why you are one of my favourites. I love your fashion posts & the posts about your mad little boys. I always get a laugh from the boys.
Love Niki x
Katrina
And same goes for you! I love reading about your boys and your gorgeous friends! We need to live next door to each other… 😉
Amanda
You have absolutely made my day Katrina by including me on your list above. It’s seriously been ‘one of those weeks’ and knowing that you enjoy my blog is a definite highlight – thanks!! I only know half of those you’ve listed above so will look forward to checking out the others soon.
As for the PR company who crazily turned you down, you so don’t need them. Your blog is fantastic as it is which is why I love visiting here so much. I love that you are ‘you’, that your blog is honest, open, interesting, covers a range of topics and that you so selflessly share blogging tips with us all. Big hugs to you xx
Katrina
You’re welcome! I love your blog – I just never get to comment over there as much as I should – but I always read every post in my reader. Hope you have a good weekend x
Marina
Unreal. They’ll probably regret it in the future one day. In the meantime, stay fabulous! You are a great inspiration to us “new bloggers” and a bit of a leader of the Aussie Blog world I think. :-). Mxx
Katrina
Thanks lovely lady x

just thought I’d also add that the value of the blog to the individual has little to do with blogging stats and all to do with connection and content – this is where you shine 🙂 le xox
le_third
me again – just thought I’d mention that I have developed a co-operative blog concept that I am working on with Jane from life on baby planet and I know she wants to run it by you … I’ll ask her to make a leap of faith and send it onto you for a look see 🙂 le xox
Nikki @ Styling You
Blogging your own race is THE BEST advice anyone can take on.
There is a stack of things I don’t get invited to but I let it slide because there other things I do get invited to – swings and roundabouts.
The way I see it is that PR companies have a set budget and a plan for an event. The ones that have ended up working in my favour are ones that I’ve spent many years building a relationship with.
Swings and roundabouts!
Katrina
You’re absolutely right! Agree 100%. Lucky I live in the sticks so events aren’t my thing hahaha! Have a great weekend xo
Nikki @ Styling You
Yes, the regional bit is like that! Actually in hindsight I wasn’t just talking just about events – more opportunities and stuff in general. I think if anyone is looking over the fence it might look better but I haven’t got time for that stuff!
Annie
Things happen for a reason Katrina and I don’t reckon you need anyone representing you. You are a force to be reckoned with and by controlling your own destiny you will only take on what makes you comfortable.
It’s early days for this blog PR concept…it could go either way. Just saying.
xx
Katrina
Awww you’re a gem.
Megan
Naaawww thanks for the flog lady! Oh how I love honest posts like these. I am in such a funk with my blogging at the moment, but maybe I just need to get back on to it and TELL people that I’m in a funk with my blogging at the moment! At least I wouldn’t be neglecting it and I’d be stating the truth. I may not blog everyday, but I’m ALWAYS reading what my fellow bloggers have to say. A while back I was considering offering advertising space etc, but then came to the conclusion that I’m just not in a position at the moment to put so much time into it. I’ll keep my blog for myself at this stage, and if people dig reading it then that’s a big bonus 🙂 xx
