Today, I feel like blogging about blogging.
I feel like spreading some blogging cheer.
Who is feeling lost in the BIG sea of the blogging world? It can feel like that sometimes hey?
Yesterday I felt a little lost when a publicity company told me to keep up the good work and looks like I’m doing a great job blogging. HUH?
What did that mean? It was such a weird comment. I didn’t know I need affirmation.
This is my point.
Do we need affirmation? Maybe we do. Maybe we need someone to tell us we ARE doing a great job, no matter our statistics, followers, readers…
I got knocked back from that publicity company and I have no idea why. If they measure who they want to work with based on statistics, then I smash more than half of their current bloggers out of the water. I just didn’t get it.
But obviously I got knocked back for some other reason.
I started thinking (actually I thought about it all night)… I sort of got angry and wanted to write back to them and question their comment.
BUT what would that achieve?
So, I woke up today and thought what can I do to make the blogging world a better and more supportive community?
I can teach.
I can share.
I can encourage.
I can run my own race.
I can open my eyes.
AND…
I want you to know that you are doing a great job.
If you need help in an area, or get stuck, how can I help you?
I want you to know that I am happy to help you where I can. I don’t want to blog just for me. I want you to read my blog and feel happy to be here. I’m speaking a Blogopolis next month and I’d love to know if you’ll be there. Come and see me talk about blog design. Hopefully I give you some handy hints 🙂
Today, I want to share with you some of MY favourite blogs. I don’t get a chance to read them everyday, but when I can I’m locked in.
1. Homely One
3. Fun and VJ’s
6. Lona de Anna
7. Meg & Mum’s
You guys make fun blogging fun and real. Real people in the real world.
Oh, I have hundreds more in my Google Reader and feel bad I couldn’t add you all. BUT, if you’ve got a blog that needs a bit of loving, why not add it below in my comments section. Everyone LOVES discovering a new blog to read.
Happy Friday! I can’t wait for the weekend, it’s been a long week here. X

Ha,ha,ha! I got knocked back by the same publicity company!!!… same patronising drum… and I know for a fact that I have the stats to be considered. It’s ironic that just one hour after my ‘don’t call us, we’ll call you’ email, I was approached by a large real estate consortium asking if I was interested in a venture with them through my blog…. bypassing any publicity agent, thank you very much. As I have always said, “run your own race”… and give as much as you can. You’re doing that… and more. You are my go to girl for all things bloggy… internet in fact. Sooo, “keep up the good work, you’re doing a great job blogging”… tongue in cheek. I don’t think they’re really serious if they’re turning away business 2 days after they have launched? Why advertise, why promote? A-M xx

& Crazy not to take you!!! We have your plan already worked out!!
Katrina
You monkey! What is this plan?? lol!
Annieb25
infiltrating the marketplace by stealth 😉
Katrina
Stealth… haha love that word! Totally under-used!
A-M
Annie gives great advice…. solutions in fact. Now there’s a thought?…. ‘Solutions Annie’!
Annieb25
Thank you lovely, that made my morning!! PS – they are crazy not to take you. Flabbergasted.

The way I saw it ( I may be wrong) is that they needed to start somewhere and they probably chose a few bloggers they had a relationship with and knew well to get the ball rolling. My hope is that the brands take notice, it takes off and there will be an explosion of bloggers with representation. I’m sure there are plenty of bloggers with amazing readership but representation in Australia is new and they’re testing the waters.
Keep running your race. You’re very helpful to us newbies 😉
Katrina
Totally understand you need to start somewhere. With their huge promotional campaign across all networks it was assumed by thousands that they were advertising…. maybe I misinterpreted this!
Brismod
Aww…Thanks so much for the love, Katrina!!!
And you know, you don’t need that publicity company…they would actually need you, if you know what I’m saying. xx
Katrina
Thanks love! X
brismod
Just read the other comments…a bit surprised at who they are knocking back…Yikes! xx
Katrina
Yes, doesn’t make for good publicity…

for what it is worth I think I know which mob you are discussing and maybe your stand alone Katrina brand is too strong for them – maybe your fame from the block makes you a stand alone commodity and maybe you are just too capital K Katrina for their books – these are all the things we love about you and make you special to me/us … maybe they only want bloggers who are known for their blogs and not multi media maids like you – just thinking out loud with my marketing brain switched on – my best to you le xox
Katrina
Thank you le – I appreciate your comment – something to ponder…
Something Gorgeous
Such lovely thoughts. On the eve of our blog one year anniversary we have spent a lot of time questioning why we are blogging. But the answer is always, we love it and the people we have “met”. Your blog is amazing (you have the car to prove it!). Thank you for sharing your blog knowledge so selflessly.
Katrina
This is true! I’ve met some amazing people too! X
Something Gorgeous
PS: We are attending Blogopolis, will definitely stop by for a chat. xT

I’ve had a few similar moments when being left off some list or popularity contest has prompted me to question what I’m doing and whether I’ve got it all wrong. I even have a blog post in my head on the subject, just haven’t had time to write it this week.
I’m beginning to realise just how fragile my ego must be, if I can get angry or upset over such trivial things… 😉 I actually spent most of one weekend crying because I didn’t make the grade in some awards thing or other. Pfft. If I’m honest, I simply haven’t had the time this year to put the effort into my blogging that a lot of others do. (And besides, it turned out that many, if not most of those award “finalists” had nominated themselves. Ha!)
Time to toughen up and focus on things that really matter.
Thanks a bunch for all that you do to help others! x
Katrina
I was thinking the same thing – wow my ego has been bruised… just being honest I guess. I’m seeing holes in how things are ‘judged’ more and more…
Karen@RestyledVintage
I don’t blog for anyone but myself really…as far as stats go, I don’t actually even know how to interpret them. And I don’t care…that sounds bad, oh well! I only started my blog because when I started my furniture business in 2009, I wanted a professional image and web presence which to me, meant my own domain name and email address @ that domain. A web designer said to me ‘oh you just need a blog’ and I didn’t know what a blog was, but I soon found out 🙂 I write posts when I have something to write about, and never schedule them, or plan them, I just write and hit publish. Lately I have been too busy to post much, and find updates on my facebook page much easier to cope with, and that seems to reach existing and potential clients which is good. You have two bloggers in your list that are also on mine, Meg and Sandy. I have actually met Sandy, after connecting through our blogs, we are like modern day pen pals, and almost birthday twins, turning 40 one day apart last year 🙂 She is an amazing lady, so talented and finds the best treasures! Hope to meet Meg one day too…that would have to be my favourite (and quite unexpected) thing about blogging…meeting new friends
Alicia - time worn style
Well I don’t even comment much anymore on blogs.
too many codes and pages to get past to say anything
I’m finding after the car accident it has been very difficult to get back into the blogging (and other things).
Would love some constructive criticisms on my blog for sure, completely lost direction.
hmmm time to get motivated again!
Alicia
Katrina
Everyone loses motivation now and then Alicia – don’t be discouraged! I love all your work. I follow you on FB all the time X
The Distressed Mother
I love your blog! It’s honest, funny and you’re always helpful. This coming from the world’s slackest blogger – six weeks since my last post!
TDM xx
Cathy
Oh wow Katrina, you just made my day. I’ve been in a bit of a rut the past couple of weeks with my writing – think this might inspire me to get a post out today (hopefully)! Looking forward to checking out the other blogs you mentioned as well. Chuffed to have made your list and looking forward to meeting you and hearing you speak at Blogopolis!! xx
Rhi @ Hummingbird's Song
Oh Katrina, that was such a lovely surprise to wake up to! Thank you so much!
For a second I got caught up in the whole blog race.. but now I’m measuring my success by the amazing friends and connections I’ve made in the blogging community. Everything is else is just a bonus!
I won’t be able to make Blogopolis this year, but I’ll be at Problogger for sure. You better be there! 😛 xx
Katrina
Bummer about Blogopolis – don’t know whether I’ll be at Problogger. 🙁
Rhi @ Hummingbird's Song
Oh bugger 🙁 You have to be there!
Suzie C
Hi ladies, sorry to bust in on this conversation but I was about to write the same thing as Rhi. I have been caught up in the stats and comments and what else can I do to get noticed (and I haven’t been blogging for that long)….but more recently with all the great connections that I’ve made, blogging has become a tool to engage with people that I really like talking too and I’ve met some great chicks through the events that I’ve attended like Fashionopolis, etc. I have something written in one of my ‘ideas’ books where I scribble notes and it’s say ‘Become a woman of value rather than a Success’ I take it as, if you create value for others the success will follow….so that’s my new moto and I’m enjoying blogging so much more and it’s become easier as well. Anyway that’s my 2 cents 🙂 Suzie
Janette - My Sweet Prints
Thank you for the encouraging post Katrina! I love how you give such great blog tips… For free! And you are always funny and yourself. Keep up the good work and bigger and better things than that publicity company are just around the corner I’m sure.
Jxx
Trish
Well said Katrina, I might check out a few new bloggers too :).
Deanne
What I find weird is when I read some blogs that post almost never, post about nothing, have crap photos and 1000’s of followers, sometimes I think it is just the luck of the draw!
Not that I am saying my blog is perfect or super special but sometimes you wonder how it all works!
Katrina
I wonder too…. 😉
Shelley
aw thanks, more awesome blogs to feed my blog addiction. Going to check them out now
🙂
Karen
Yes, I’ve been browsing other blogs lately and just feeling overwhelmed, easy to feel lost in the crowd. Thanks for the encouragement!
Fiona, LilyfieldLife
hi Katrina – I don’t think you need to worry about not getting some publicity.. you are the queen of publicity .. but seriously just remember that the people who turned you down are just people themselves and they really don’t have any hold over you. You have a huge fan base from so many realms.
BTW I still need to sort out my domain name merge but other things keep cropping up…(like today I need to do my overdue BAS!)
I wonder why I blog sometimes myself but then I think about the lovely people I’ve met and it’s all worthwhile.
have a lovely weekend
cheers Fiona
Sarah SB
you have put together a great list! my blog list grows every day….so many amazing bloggers out there & I think the important thing is to do what you love & not worry about what everyone else is doing. xx
Scandi Coast Home
Hi Katrina,
You told me only a week or so ago that I was ‘doing a good job blogging.’ I know you were just being lovely as usual but I took it as it was meant to be and appreciated it very much……it could be a long time before I receive a similar compliment so I’ll take it ;o)
The PR company may have been looking for something specific and I’m quite sure that you really are doing a good job blogging and there are ‘other ways to skin a cat’ so don’t let it define you. I read your blog every single day……I LOVE it! Let your readers decide I say!!! ;o)
Have a great day and thanks for the motivation yet again……
Tania xx

I love your positivity katrina! it just shines through in every post, even if you’re having a crappy day. I agree, sometimes it feels like the sea of bloggers is too big to be seen (or heard) but you’re right, and I was given the same advice, you’ve got to blog your own race. That publicity company is nuts for not taking you on x
Katrina
Thanks Tahnee – oh it’s so discouraging though sometimes!
Katrina
I loved your post too.
