Well you all got to see the ‘explosive’ episode last night. I didn’t watch it. Why would I?
I knew the whole thing would be hyped up, heavily edited (probably by a man no doubt) and I really didn’t want see any of it again.
That builder (who even wants to say his name!) grabbed the cameras whilst we were out on a challenge and really let it rip, so I hear. How stupid of him. What can I say about $7,000 for 3 and a half days work?? “Tell him he’s dreamin’.” So NO, we did not pay him that amount of money.
I was asked by the media yesterday…. Do you think he took advantage of you? No, ‘advantage’ isn’t the right word because we had nothing to offer him. We had no tradeskills and he did, so his knowledge was greater than ours. What we were made to feel was ‘silly’. Just downright silly. He wanted to rub it in that he knew more than us and we knew nothing. How childish…
Everything always works out in the end and I still loved my experience on The Block. I’ve said it before – we did not sail through this. There are still rocky times to come. My husband was furious last night. His phone was ringing all night. Relatives and friends were so angry at how Amie and I were made to feel. My Mum was crying. It’s all ok! We got through it and more power to us.
People are asking me why I don’t respond to the negative comments over on Facebook? Are you serious? What the heck for? Why would I bother with that vile place? It’s a hate page for the all of the contestants not a fan page. I am so surprised they are allowed to get away with it. No one is happy to let you be warm and fuzzy. I have learnt so much about people in general… this could be a whole blog post I think! Or I should write a book about “treating people how you’d like to be treated”. I truly feel Australia has lost it’s way and only knows how to be rude. Actually, I think Australia is breeding a huge generation of know-alls. I’m surprised we haven’t taken over the world with so many geniuses on hand!
Anyone, feel free to give us some love over there on my behalf…
Remember people, this is JUST a tv show and we are NORMAL people!
Read my earlier post about Amie and I just being normal people.
Thanks for following my blog and reading it via RSS!

My gorgeous, amazing, lovely Katrina. I have fallen so far behind on catching up with episodes (I can only watch at work and that isn't helpful when I am so busy!) but I am getting the idea of what you are going through from your tweets, blog posts, and the vile FB page I removed myself from. Katrina if I could wish one thing I would zap myself over to Aus and give you the BIGGEST hug (and then I'd go home via A-M's house to give her one too!) You don't deserve the crap you are getting and I only hope it hasn't tainted your experience of the Block. Looking at your pics, my second wish would be to get you to come and redecorate my house! So keep your head held high and know that you are BRILLIANT!
Lots of love xxxxxxxx

Hi hon – loving watching this season of The Block. So much more entertaining with the challenges and the fact you guys get to work full time on the reno. The trouble is, when you put yourself out there, you become public property and in our society, judgements and opinions flow thick and fast. It's very easy to judge from a lounge chair and from behind a computer screen – would like to see THEM give reno'ing a go.
Definitely just tune out and perhaps ask the show's producers for a bit of advice on how to deal with backlash…I would consider it part of their duty of care.
And next time Lindsay Lohan is in town, hook up with her and ask her how she deals with it.
And comfort yourself in the fact that that builder was a wanker (technical building term) and the majority of us saw right through it.
Good luck – looking forward to seeing how the rest of the house works out.

THAT builder…….wound ME up!
HE took advantage of the show.
Sacking that guy was too good for him………………..

What's with the Facebook page? Why isn't 'The Block' moderating it? Do 'The Block' people realise that this is affecting your lives now? Or are the ratings more important? Silly question. It breaks my heart that this experience has been tainted for you, by jealous, judgemental people. Surround yourself with all those who love and adore you. Snuggle into your beautiful family. Those of us who barely know you love you too!
Chin up pet. You both shine on that show, you really do. A-M xx

So sorry for all your negative feedback on facebook.
unfortunately life has now bred a huge amount of 'ARMCHAIR CRITICS"
that is: People who only ever sit in an armchair and criticise – they never do! They will never do. They will always be a coward and criticise.
Keep reaching for those stars remember – the beggars are on the ground.
have a lovely (peaceful) day

Just took a look at “The Block” Facebook page.
Now I know why I stopped using Facebook…….
Wast of time, wast of good energy for the day.
Stay away Katrina, I’m sure you have much more exciting things to do in your day.:)

I watched last night….my heart sank!!!
Your builder showed himself in a VERY poor light. All the groups had great help and I fear you picked the rotten apple from the tree.
Today is a new day (and a new show….and as for 'face book'….yuck!!

My husband and I are so addicted to this show that we watched it late last night cause we were out earlier. We were just so disgusted with that builder. I think that you summed it up when you said that your treatment may have been different if you had been a male-female couple. My husband, who works in another male-dominated industry, agreed with you. It's sad in this day and age but a fact with some individuals. I don't think that builder will be getting much work now though. What he did was just nasty! I am hoping that it gets better for from here on!

Katrina & Amie rest assured that many of us watching the episode last night viewed it through a 'reality' filter.
And by that I don't mean 'reality show' filter which seems to have veered towards a formula that hypes up the drama, but a 'real life' filter which knows that the show is about a contest.
That the participants are real people, that tight timelines bring great stresses and that heavy editing will be required and so we will only get a small {skewed} glimpse of all that happens on 'The Block'.
Apparently drama is what we, the viewers want, but really what we want is to see great design and renovation tips.
Sending you out a great big happy hug and some extra teflon coating for all the goob that is floating out there in the webosphere this week.

Oh Katrina .. I am not on the Facebook page (and definately won't go there now) but from what you have written over the last few posts must make you both feel very sad.
it IS just a TV show – and the 'talent' (ie: you GREAT contestants) are interesting, lovely, hard working and fun. I love watching you guys try and work it out. It's true – if there was one of your husbands there, it would have been very different. Not because you can't do it – just that tradies are so blokey .. and arrogant (well, your builder dude deserves other more descriptive words – but I won't even go there).
From a mum who likes to make houses pretty to another – I applaud you. I congratulate you. AND. I support you for doing such an amazing thing.
I hope your house wins – but even if it doesn't, I've had a great time (so far) watching you work. Well done to both you and Amie (-:

Wow, last nights show did get a bit nasty. I was surprised and I believe most genuine people were on your side. The builder did himself no favours other than to look totally unprofessional and childish. Soak up all the blog love as we follow you through the rest of the house. Good luck and be happy! 😉

You know that those comments from those people on facebook are really just a minority view. Forums like that give a lot of small people a voice they otherwise wouldn't have. Sadly, you have to take the good (great life experience) with the bad (nasty comments).
The editing of the show is really sensationalist and clearly meant to polarise people. That's entertainment these days. To be honest, not everyone watches The Block because of that. I know I wouldn't be watching it if you weren't on it. xx

I was so angry but then I laughed; he shot himself in the foot didn't he? There's no way I'd be hiring him and I definitely wouldn't recommend him. I wonder how proud his family are of him? I wouldn't be.
It's not right that people treat others badly but I believe in karma. It will get them right on the ass.
You are amazing!

I haven't heard anyone say anything nice about that builder yet.
His behaviour was misogynistic and disgusting.
I still don't understand (as I've said on the vogue forums) why only a week was given for 2 of the hardest rooms in a house when a certain amount of time is scientifically required for concrete to dry, tiling to be done, etc etc. Especially when it's apparently deeply important that the building code be adhered to. The producers of the show can't have it both ways. You can have the job done fast or you can have it done right…
GAH!

Blind Freddy could see that builder was an (insert expletive here!). I haven't been reading the comments on the Facebook page, but some people need to get a life! Let them put themselves in the same situation and see how they go!

I'm with you hun – Facebook (actually the internet in general) is just a breeding ground for people who never left high school….. if you know what I mean. Because they feel they can stay anonymous they simply let rip and try to pull others down. Many a time I've gotten into an argument with an internet troll and have come away feeling just foolish, as there is just no point. I don't think anyone (on either side of the argument) has ever managed to win an argument on the internet and it always turns into a slanging match.
Good on you for not taking the bait they lay out there. I haven't seen it myself because I refuse to read the rubbish and it's gets my back up and puts me in a bad mood all day.
That chippy was just an A-hole with a capital A. As soon as he was with the cameras on his own talking crap the way he was he showed his true colours and I hope his business now suffers a little bit.
Now I feel I'm waffling…… what I really wanted to say is that I could never do what you and Amie have done and you guys are the reason I watch the show. I think you're tremendous 🙂

The way the show has been edited and presented is very disappointing. It's obvious to anyone with a brain that footage is being carefully selected to highlight the tiniest hiccup and turn it into drama, all in the name of ratings. More of the renovating is what I'd like to see and less of the manipulative nonsense.
Intelligent people don't get sucked into believing that what they see on TV is all there is to the contestants. But then, intelligent people don't leave nasty comments on Facebook either.
As for whatsisface the builder, he should be ashamed. And karma is a b*tch.

that 'builder' was repulsive. he had the worst attitude, and seemed out to make sure you both failed. Silly man,..doesn't bode well for his credibility, does it!? You girls rock! x
