Hello there!

Look! We started painting our house over the weekend. We wanted to get stuck in to it as our lease is ending soon and I can’t wait to move in. I am so happy with how it has turned out so far….

The colour is Colorbond Shale Grey and thanks to Taubmans (who do Colorbond colours) we are using ENDURE external paint. It’s a 2 coat system and I am being deadly serious when I say it would have to be the best paint I’ve ever used externally. It is so easy and the sheen is perfect. My 10 year old is even helping it’s that easy to work with.

Everyone is also asking about the weatherboard. Technically it’s not the old-fashioned weatherboard (as that wouldn’t get passed through our council), but rather is this stuff: Scyon Linea Board. It’s a fibre cement sheeting and is top of the range. It won’t weather like the old style. In Wagga, Husdson Timber and Hardware helped me out with all of this (mainly Rodney in case you want to go there!). They knew exactly the look I wanted and sorted it all out for me. In terms of pricing – it’s very competitive and I was happy.

My Mum said to me the other day: Why DID you go with weatherboard? Nan was also asking…?? I said it was always something I wanted. A grey weatherboard house with a very green garden. And now I’m getting it. And I’m in love.

Love him (aka Chambo). He is so patient and never lazy. He hasn’t stopped smiling about the house.

Deja vu anyone? Well I said worse than that on my instagram yesterday. The neighbours enjoyed the show! Yes I am painting sans scaffolding (I have Chambo to do that, not Keith this time)… Oh, and I cannot paint without singing.

I have the most motivated 10 year old ever. He is in training for The Block 2020. He is filling the holes here. Love his guts. The other 2 kids can’t stand being at the house and that’s ok! I palmed them off for a few hours 🙂

Next weekend we’re hoping to get the eaves done and the window frames. Also by that time, most of the front should be done. The plasterers will be inside the house this week. I am REALLY looking forward to that because that’s when the room sizes become more apparent. We’re not painting the inside of the house. We’re leaving that to the pro’s.

I also wanted to show you my roof-line. Isn’t she pretty?? It’s just very average size house – 4 bedrooms, 2 living. I wanted high ceilings and a pretty façade. I am so happy with it. All those boards have been painted too. This is the westerly side so it’s what I call “the dead side of the house”. It’s where the hot sun will be late in the day so on this side it’s mainly bedrooms and bathrooms.

So that’s the latest with the house! You’re all up-to-date. I’ll be back soon when the plastering is under way. Have a great day.

Looking fabulous, why do you want weatherboard would be a question my mum would have asked too!
I love weatherboard houses, but I hate our weatherboard (installed by previous owners)- it has an uneven surface and all over the internet are complaints of the paint peeling off due to getting air pockets in the ridges!

I don’t know how anyone can be working outside in this extreme heat. You’ve done well! Our architects have specified the same product for our extension – I’ve heard really good things about it. I still haven’t chosen the final colour yet, and I imagine I’ll leave it until the last minute. xx

It makes us feel good inside when a child wants to help without being asked.
Looks great. Love the linea board. We have some of it on the front of our house.

Scyon is great, we’ve used the same for our house. Did you go the wider board?

My Nan too is puzzled on why I have chosed to use weatherboard,I think because she has never lived in a brick house only ever weatherboard and thinks a brick house is something special.

    House looks beautiful.

I think weatherboard has definitely made a comeback and is quite luxurious in its look now. But I understand why the older generation doesn’t understand, as my Nan also had an old fibro/weatherboard house. Your house is beautiful. Yes, love the roofline! Just wondering if they/you could have organised a spraying of the colour on the boards before they were put on the house? Or even spray the house now? It just seems like a lot of work to paint (but very rewarding, no doubt). Can’t wait to see the inside as it progresses and the garden. I remember helping my dad dig a massive hole for leveling out of our carport, and help with the yards in our new house back in the late 70’s when I was a young teen. Still hold the best memories of him and I slaving away in the heat that summer, with Mum bringing us drinks and food 🙂

I love it. I especially like your roof angles and gables. It’s a must have in my opinion, for an interesting street appeal. I just saw that Amity posted on Facebook the date for The Block All Stars is Feb 4. Yay, finally a date!

It is looking fantastic! I think my dream home would be weatherboard too, there’s just something more homely about it than brick.

We have fibro weatherboards on our 12 yr old house, and we love them still. we are repainting this year and there is so little prep work, no splitting or warping or cupping which you would get with wood. the surface is lovely.

We are changing from a blue house to a mid toned grey ( dulux exposed elements double strength) with our light colour bond roof ( dune)

    I love it.

We had lots of questions re choosing weatherboards, but most of our friends and family have been won over.

Katrina, I am LOVING watching your new house come to life. I adore your style and the choices you’ve gone with. Colours look fab and I love that your big boy is happy to join in on the painting fun… I remember you saying he enjoyed flicking through interiors magazines with you a while back for new house ideas. Can”t wait to see more… xx
