The TV Room in the new house

I’ve been starting to think about the TV/Media/Rumpus room in the new house. I am having a living/dining area, but I am trying to decide how to layout the other tv room. In this house we are only have 2 lounge rooms. In our last house we had living, formal and rumpus. I always hated the formal lounge room. It was wasted space and we never used it. It just means more furniture and more cleaning, so I’ve ditched it and made the living/dining area bigger.

But I want to know what to do with the tv room, or media room or whatever we decide to call it! It will be a place where we hang out and watch tv. The kids can play xbox in there and watch movies. I am having some sort of storage built around the tv, but I don’t want too  much…

I’ll have similar floors and I have a similar coloured lounge to this above. The shelving is a bit much, but I like the cupboards under the tv.

I love the pops of colour!

Again, similar floors and lounge colour. Simple and fresh with a bit of storage.

There are the cupboards under the tv I like…

I love the blue mat and cupboards.

I love the colour of this lounge though. It looks so comfy! I am considering a new lounge for the other living space and I love the grey/neutral!

How cool would these lounges be in the tv room? Not white of course. We could really hang out and watch movies on these. I think they are from IKEA. I must suss them out…

I’ll come back later in the week with some more house stuff. I have rotten asthma (Spring-time always brings it out), so I’m lying low and feeling like crap. Hope you have a great day!

We had storage like those suspended cupboards under tv in our last home – very handy! You can probably see them in my house photos on blog although I can’t remember exactly what I posted. Different colour palette though 🙂 Love the pics above – some great ideas! Off to see the kitchen guy tomorrow – exciting!!

Hi Katrina, the last pic the couches are from idea. We have one and great for kids. Covers come off completely for washing and you can re arrange the seating easy. It’s not luxurious by any stretch of the imagination but very practical and does look good.
    Have a great week 😉

I would love to see a floor plan too but can understand why you want to keep your privacy. However, when your new home gets featured in a house magazine, like Home Beautiful, what will happen then as they always show a sketch of the house plan. May as save us the wait now and let us have a sneak peek now. 😉

Speaking of Home Beautiful, the homes featured always seem to have all kinds of built in tv units. Have you had a look through the mags?

Love the idea of one open living and a rumpus room, much more practical than a formal lounge. We have all boys too 🙂 so to have a room where they could have all their Wii, Playstation would be great!

Hahaha IF I had a magazine deal, well then that would be considered, but I doubt it so I’m happy keeping it a secret 🙂

I know drawers are more expensive but I would prefer them to low cupboards under the TV as you can easily see whats in them and I think they hold more.
Your house sounds great Katrina, hope it all goes well. P xx

Love the cupboards in the 4th photo. Friends of ours just had built in cupboards added to their rumpus room, they look fabulous. They had them made to fit the exact size of plastic storage boxes for maximum storage. They have some drawers as well, which look great.

Yep I’m not fond of too much cabinetry either, especially around (& above) the tv as I feel it is too distracting!

Loved seeing all your ideas, I’m hoping to get some cabinetry in our living room down the track too, cupboards like in a few shots you’ve shared above for under the TV and shelving above. You have such great taste, I can’t wait to see what you go with…. x

I LOVE the first picture. Wall to wall, floor to ceiling bookshelves are exactly what I want! Thanks for the inspiration.
