With Maddy and Charlotte now settled in and the budgets tightening, the pressure was on for the Blockheads to prove themselves in this week’s main bedrooms. From an incredible owner’s retreat that wowed the judges to a space that didn’t quite hit the mark, the results were all over the map.

So, did the newcomers leave a lasting impression? Who struggled to complete their room? And, of course, who walked away with the $10,000 prize?

Courtney and Grant (First place 28/30)

“Yum!” Darren exclaimed as he admired Grant and Courtney’s stunning “Moditerranean” main bedroom. From the arched ceiling and nib walls concealing the HomePro sheers to the bullnose plaster accents, this room had it all. Marty even called it “THE most marketable room delivered on The Block in 2024.” Beautifully styled with a Globe West Occasional chair, Kolbi Luna Moon side table, and Create Estate Fern bed, Shaynna agreed it would be tough to beat. The Kinsman wardrobe, featuring shelving, stone details, and leather-textured cabinetry, also earned high praise, with Marty joking he might become a bidder himself.

Kristian and Mimi (Tied First Place 28/30)

From the raked ceiling with HomePro sheers to the Wave bedhead, Foundation bedbase, and Dot ottoman (all part of Steph and Gian’s new Japandi Estate collection), Kristian and Mimi’s room exuded “Coastal Holiday” vibes, according to Marty. The space was beautifully complemented by Artist Lane artworks, including the Cape Woolamai Phillip Island piece by Ella Boylan. However, it wasn’t without its flaws—Shaynna was put off by unfinished paintwork and mismatched door handles, while Marty found the LED lighting next to their signature Porta Timber feature a bit off-putting. Darren pointed out that the bedside light switches were too far away and only having one bedside lamp was unusual. Despite the minor issues, the judges agreed it was a fantastic room, almost deserving of a perfect score! The wardrobe, with its Budino Walnut joinery and Hafele upgrades, impressed everyone with its drop-down hangers, leather boxes, trouser racks, shoe drawers, and more. Darren summed it up as “Luxury upon luxury!”

Kylie and Brad (Third Place 27.5/30)

Classy and luxurious while maintaining Kylie’s signature dark and moody palette, House Four’s main bedroom was a hit with the judges. “Talk about personality!” Marty exclaimed. Shaynna was equally impressed, praising the Shou Sugi Ban feature wall and up-lighting, and noting how well the burgundy accents, metallic Grafico ceiling, Arthur console, Wyatt Milan bedside, and Bonnie Occasional chair (all from Globe West) came together. “This works so well!” she added. The functionality of the Mitsubishi split system and the nods to feng shui also got a thumbs-up from the panel. In the wardrobe, the compliments kept coming with another Grafico ceiling and wall, a Wild Yarn Marley rug, and perfectly chosen panelling. The only critique came from Shaynna, who felt the styling could have been a touch more refined than ripped jean shorts. But overall, the judges agreed it was a success. Darren summed it up: “Like walking into a jewellery box!”

Maddy and Charlotte (Fourth Place 25.5/30)

With a calming neutral palette and floor-to-ceiling crushed linen sheers, the judges were pleased to see Maddy and Charlotte embrace a more coastal vibe, moving away from the previous Blockhead’s “Grandma Chic”. The Velux skylight, Hardie Groove feature wall, and carefully selected details like the Bordeaux Candle and T. House Zoi bowl all added to a strong start. However, Shaynna felt they needed to think bigger, suggesting that the Kave Home Luisa armchair and bedside tables could have been more substantial. In the Kinsman wardrobe, Darren praised the on-trend colours and well-executed fittings. Despite multiple teams working on the room, Marty noted, they were definitely moving in the right direction.

Ricky and Haydn (Fifth Place 21.5/30)

At first glance, the judges were impressed with Ricky and Haydn’s main retreat. The Grafico wallpaper featuring custom palm trees, the detailed ceiling and panelling, Bohteak Bora Bora lamps, and the matching single teak Branch Mirror all stood out. However, Marty questioned, “Did the effort on that ceiling cause you to run out of time?” Unlike the other teams, they hadn’t finished the room. In the Kinsman walk-in, the judges praised the scalloped door profile and Brown Bronze handles, but Shaynna questioned the decision to carpet the wardrobe while using floorboards in the bedroom. Marty also wondered if the door placement was ideal. Darren summed it up as “an unfinished symphony,” noting the rushed appearance of the space.
