[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Hi there! Thanks for stopping by today. It was “Anything but a bedroom” week on The Block. So this meant study, media room, drawing room, or a mix of anything.
Here’s how the scoring went… Hannah and Clint on 28.5, Josh and Elyse on 26.5, Jason and Sarah on 21, Georgia and Ronnie on 21 and Sticks and Wombat on 21.
Come and check them out in order of points this week…[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Hannah & Clint
I am happy to see Hannah and Clint finally have a win. I have been waiting! I knew they had it in them. This is a really good room (a lot of furniture in here though!), but it is styled beautifully, is well-placed and has good energy. I wouldn’t mind hanging in this space.

Josh & Elyse
A lot of work went in to this wall produced by Josh and Elyse! Wow, it’s a show-stopper. This week they produced a study space. I like a desk. I think if you’re selling this home a workspace is a good idea for resale.

Sarah & Jason
Jason and Sarah did a media room this week. This looks like a big space – much bigger than the rest of the rooms this week. I am surprised the judges didn’t go for it. I thought it was good for resale – having a decent size media room?? I think the tv wall was underwhelming because could they have used the space either side of the tv? Or is that going in to another room? I like the colours of the room too.

Sticks & Wombat
Oh my wordy…. I am just not sure what to say about this study from Sticks and Wombat. It’s not great. Not great at all. Shaynna said it’s the size of a broom cupboard and it definitely looks tiny. Moving right along…

Georgia & Ronnie
I thought the judges might like the wow factor in this room produced by Georgia and Ronnie, but no they hated it! I wasn’t a huge fan, but I must say the black makes an impact and they have styled it perfectly (for the look they are trying to achieve). I am not sure how I would use the room personally? You can’t work it in, there is no tv? Or does the fake fireplace (behind the mirror) turn in to a tv and I missed that part? What did you think about this room???

Which did you prefer? ♥ KC.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

I’d do a study for sure or a storage room! Definitely not a nothing room. Who has time to sit around and do nothing? Lol. Hated Ronnie & Georgia’s room. It was terrible. Why black? Yuk. I think the right room won but still a waste of space in my opinion.

I think Ronnie and Georgia do an absolute amazing job but this week they were terrible it looked like a gentlemans club
Priya McDonald
I love a black room but I think the space was to small to pull it off.
Danielle Andreoli
I love the couch
Leanne Rowe
One reason I stopped watching. It’s not inspirational when it’s costing that much.
Jess Trembath McIntosh
I am exactly the same.
Cristy O'Brien
I think they could have pulled off the black room had they used some mouldings on the wall to give it some period character and depth and maybe some wall sconces
Mel Hammill
It’s a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a room and no one can afford to do that at home
Casey Coleman
I think they are all going to run out of money, they haven’t even done kitchens yet! They still have so much to do inside and then they have to do outside as well.
I hated Georgia and Ronnie’s room, it was black on top of black, not my thing at all.
I probably would have done an office/study in there I think with lots of storage.
Susan Reed
Totally agree with u – all unrealistic $$$ wise

This show is all about the cosmetic stuff & not about the renovating work. It’s disappointing to see that’s what they judge (as clearly shown when they chastised Sarah & Jason’s decorating). I think a 2nd lounge room is a great idea, but seating should be oriented towards TV – to be family friendly & useable.

I’d love to see ‘The Block -Done on a Normal Person’s Budget’ series. I know I can’t afgord $200 for a cushion. I want all the cushions, bedding and styling in a room for that.
Kerry Neville Gestier
The right room won – finally Agree Katrina, the cost of the “decorative elements” in this Block series is mind blowing!

The prices that these places sell for in the recent series does reflect that the owners would furnish with fairly expensive furniture. BUT I think yes the budgets are a bit ridiculous , $50 000 bathrooms! A lot of the decorating could be done a lot cheaper and still look amazing.

There was no real foresight or imagination with regards to any of the room types selected or their target market or the overall function or organisation of the collective spaces near to this allocated space. the rooms were in odd places, toward to front of the dwelling, near bedrooms, and far away from main living and master bedrooms. A parents retreat that involves going down a flight of stairs, through another living space and down a long hallway, is never going to be used as a parents retreat… likewise an adults study that is potentially near kids rooms… not really that practical. These are enormous houses – why is there the need to create rooms for rooms sake?!?
It’s really not difficult to research the psychology around how people use spaces in very specific target markets. And, it’s all available in the public domain.
What annoys me the most about this series is There is far too much obvious and over the top product placement. It is evident that the participants are only allowed to shop from certain suppliers that have commercial arrangements with the show. I think I heard ‘west elm’ 18 times in about 8 minutes last night! I know it’s been similar in recent years, with limited suppliers, but this year it is ridiculous.

I love the office chair used in Josh and Elyse’s room. Thought I might treat myself to it .. until I saw it was $1000

The buyers can easily adapt a living room to another bedroom if needed. Or they can keep it as a second living room or change it to a study, whatever suits their needs. However, the two studies cannot be adapted to another room limiting its use. We have a study which very rarely gets used, but our second living room is often used. I’m over contestants changing up architectural designs to reinvent the wheel. Jason and a Sarah frustrate me in regards to work quality and ethics and should worry about their own ideas, not any other contestants.
Jenny Langmaid
I’ve lost interest with it over the last few years Katrina – it’s more about the drama than the costs and materials
