I’m a bit late with today’s post. I’ve been busy checking out all your photos from the tagging game I created over the weekend (see yesterday’s post). Plus, my big computer has died, so it’s in sick bay. Hopefully she’ll be back soon.
If you’re wondering why I’ve decide to talk about exercising and motivating others to do it, then I’m going to tell you why… Today is a bit of a medical post, so click off if this is not your thing 🙂
Something has been missing from my life for the last 8 weeks – Crohn’s Disease. It seems to have disappeared. I don’t know where it went, but I hope it’s not in a hurry to come back any time soon. I think I’ve gone in to a little phase of remission. I’m fist pumping (but I don’t want to jinx myself).
Exercise has never been my thing. I’ve never found it easy to do. I usually spend the majority of the first few hours of my morning in the bathroom unwell. I never felt bright enough to get myself out the door and take a walk in the mornings. It was impossible to do. Living with a chronic illness does not make exercising easy.
I started noticing about 4 weeks ago that I was feeling better than I had in years. I’d stressed myself out before going to New York about my crohn’s. I was worried about the flight and the accommodation… Blah blah. BUT, I was not sick one day. My son said to me the other day “Mum, you haven’t been sick in the bathroom for ages. Whatever you’re doing now, just keep doing it.” They know, they see everything.
I have been feeling smug and well. This is unusual for me. I have more energy than I know what to do with it. I decided I should use this time to strengthen myself, and keep myself as healthy as I can. If I get sick again, then hopefully I have a little bit of fitness behind me to be able to stay on top of the crohn’s.
I’ve been trialling a new drug and it seems to have flicked a switch. My blood results are showing levels my doctor’s have never seen in me. This is good.
So, now I want to keep up this “exercise phase” and I want you all to do it with me! C’mon! Let’s do it.
I have a plan… I’ll share some of the best photos on my blog + I might let you vote and I’ll get you a great prize (maybe each month?).
Keep posting your pictures on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #ExerciseShot (like the phrase “Money Shot”).
So today I am saying good riddance to crohn’s disease and hello to Spring time (and hot legs!).

Fantastic news lovely. I know what you mean and have found (before cankle) exercise was sporatic depending on how my Crohn’s was behaving. Crazy always keeps an eye on my health aswell, aren’t kids perceptive. Keep it up and hopefully it stays away for a while? Emily xx’

Very pleased for you! What app are you using??

That is such wonderful happy news! I am so happy to read this! I will try and take a picture of myself exercising…… My friend and I run after her German Shepherd at 6am in the mornings around our suburb. It’s insane but I guess it’s exercise! They are both much fitter than I am. Mxx

Great news! Before you know it you’ll be a kick ass fitness freak with hot legs who will never be sick again – well at least if you do you’ll be much stronger and be able to kick it to the kerb! xx

Isn’t that wonderful news? I do hope that this respite turns into a very very long disappearance act. The fact that exercise is helping (as you can guess!) is great. The fact that you went to NYC with no ill-effects.
Katrina, this is wonderful.
I am going to retweet this so hopefully a few people I know will be encouraged.
Go you!!

Katrina thats wonderful news! I get IBS (bowel and stomach spasms worse than labour) and I find running really helps to move things along.

Wow, this is exciting to hear. I approach my exercise a bit the same in recent years (barely any) but recently have started swimming and working out more and I am loving the results and extra energy. I am an IBS sufferer and the exercise makes a big difference. My mum has crohns I love sharing your posts on this with her.

I tell you, that New York, it has magical powers. I think you left your Crohns back there… and never brought it home with you. I think you actually left it on that hill we managed to get those dodgy bikes up in Central Park… that’s where it is, on that hill, under that tree where you and Mr Chambo rested. So glad you are feeling well enough to exercise. It’s only going to get better. Exercise has magical powers too…. just like NYC. A-M xx

That is great to hear Katrina. Keep up all the hard work. You are such and inspiring person. I will have to try and get a picture at pilates tomorrow night to add to the exercise pics.

This is excellent news! I’m very happy to hear this lovely – I have a friend with Chron’s and it is tough, I wasn’t aware of your situation and so I’m genuinely thrilled to hear about your health – sending light and love (the hippy in me) x x x
Anna
So pleased to hear your health is doing well.
If you want to give a pump class a go I am a regular attendee at one of the gym’s in Wagga and would highly recommend it.
If pump isn’t your thing there are lots of other classes on offer too and I enjoy a group class personally.

That’s great news Katrina!! I hope your Crohn’s stays in remission.

So really…all us Crohns sufferers should go on a holiday to New York as part of the treatment!! I’m IN!! Seriously though, glad that the new treatment is working for you. You never take the good days for granted when you’ve had the crappy ones. 🙂

WOW!!! I am so heartened to read this post, as I have had chronic illness for many many years of my life too! I empathise greatly with this plight as I know and understand what it takes get GOING of a morning. I’m NOT a morning person to begin with! This is so great to read this!!! And you’re motivating me too! Thank you!! Take care and I hope I can read MORE posts like this in the future – stay well! xxx

Love this! Good for you. I’m not very aware of what it might be like to have chron’s disease but I know what it’s like living with a painful chronic illness. I had the same thoughts as you before traveling, and I wasn’t sick with my skin once in London and NYC. I’m a believer in thinking positive and making the most of your situation, and that improves your health greatly.
Keep well x
