I decided to paint a new canvas last week and I’ve been moving that around in my home. I like moving things around on my sideboards too. I usually work with what I already have, but I need a bit of inspiration so of course I hit up Pinterest.
Here are some of my favourite sideboard styling ideas…
I can get carried away with mine, then hate it and have to start again! Do I need a lamp, a stack of books, vases in groups? Nope, that’s not working. Maybe add a plant? Argh! Now I’m flustered. What about artwork? Should I casually stack and layer them?
I love lots of treasures on a sideboard, but then I like the ones who seem to have mastered the “less is more”! Too many clever people on Pinterest.
Most seem to have a common theme though. A pyramid style. One larger object then stepped down with some smaller tactile decorative goodies. Most seem to have a plant and a stack of books. I can’t do a mirror in my entry because bad Feng shui, so I have pink wallpaper and I work around that with plants and concrete items. Today I need to tidy it up a bit and start over with the layering and the pyramid layout I think.
I think there are 2 ways to style a side table successfully according to the images above…
- Hang art/mirror in the middle and place 2 larger items at each end (like a plant one end and lamp on the other), with a stack of books and smaller items in the middle.
- Start with something big in the middle – stacked art, or the plant and then work with a pyramid layout and gradually step down the items around the middle piece.
There you go! A couple of ideas for you. These Pinterest photos make me want everything new. 😉

So glad I’m not the only one that has to move things around every now and then!!! Love your ideas – you’ve made me itchy now!

This post has come at the perfect time for me, thank you! We have just put together a new tv bench Rhys I have styled but that meant I now need to redo my side table opposite the kitchen, I just can’t seem to get it right! These tips will give me somewhere to start. X
