In my barn house I really want to do polished concrete floors. Oooo they look so fresh and sleek. Yep, I think my taste is changing a bit. I have had timber floorboards in the last 4 houses, plus I had a stint with a house that was tiled too. And look at that picture …
In my barn house I really want to do polished concrete floors. Oooo they look so fresh and sleek. Yep, I think my taste is changing a bit. I have had timber floorboards in the last 4 houses, plus I had a stint with a house that was tiled too. And look at that picture with the little bit of fancy schmancy stuff on the concrete! Loving that.
I am thinking more about big spaces with minimal (but big) pieces of furniture. I don’t want the trinkets and bits. I don’t want clutter and I don’t want mess. I want lots of space, big built in cupboards and sideboards. I want the kids to run around without knocking stuff over. I want their rooms to be their space and that’s where all the kid stuff is. I want the centre of the home to be a comfy and relaxing place without all the fuss.
I have had houses with fancy this and that and I am looking for a change. Of course I could never be boring about it, just simpler, cleaner and sleeker. Yep, the mind is ticking…..
I currently have a house with too many rooms. 3 lounge rooms, office, 4 bedrooms…. I have it all mapped out in my head with how I want to incorporate rooms and their functions and not waste the space on places we don’t use.
I am also wanting to do this next house as a very energy efficient home. I build houses for a living so I am surrounded by ideas.
Do you ever get that feeling where you just want to start again? God, please someone tell me it’s not just me that has this problem. I know I am a little crazy at times!
So, I think that in the next ‘little while’ I will embark on this project. It may not be the ‘forever’ house and I may come back around full circle to start again on a house with timber floors and fancy bits. But you know me – I love a project!
And I often think that if I didn’t live where I lived, I would have more opportunities to work on OTHER people’s houses instead of driving my husband insane and changing things in our home all the time. So hint, hint…if you ever want to put me on a plane so I can come and play with YOUR house, be my guest 😉

Luv luv luv the barn idea!I think its a sign our lives are too crazy sometimes we do need to simplify things and declutter and lets face it our kids could have 10 playrooms and they would still want more, the simple things in life are often the best!!

I have been looking at similar homes, and wishing we could remove the attachment we have to this home and just buy a big block of green grassy land and have floor to ceiling windows like in your first image. Concrete floor I love too!

Its looks like the Barn is so glorious that it would be the home…and the home would look like a barn compared to it..lol
I love concrete flooring..the one you have picture with the stenciling is gorgeous.
Its funny how our taste changes…unfortunately it takes alot of $$$$$$$$$$ which is why half my ideas dont ever come to life..bugga!
I say knock out all the walls between your 3 living spaces and make one ! lol

Well, well, well, it's my sister separated at birth. Life is too short NOT to start again if you are desperate to… like I am. My new motto in life, at the tender age of almost 43 is "take risks"… it's exhilarating and so rewarding. If it helps any…. my place will be for sale as of next Monday…as I'm doing it again! Join me for the ride… we can do it together! I will have nowhere to live… but hey that's half the fun… never knowing what's just around the corner! You only get one chance at this precious life. One time only. Do stuff! A-M xx

Good grief woman, no wonder you husband shakes his head at you!But I do like the idea of polished concrete though, years ago I remember watching a show on the ABC about a couple that built a house with polished concreate but they had small river stones incorporated in it & the effect was just beautiful.

I love the concrete floors. And be careful what you wish for. I may just put on a plane to southern Illinois where it is COLD! I'm talking way cold with blizzard conditions. Well, blizzard to me conditions.

Love the barn idea!! I like the idea of all that openess and the polished concrete floors sound like a great alternative to wooden floors. My taste seems to be changing so much lately too 🙂 I thought it was just me 🙂 Glad you had a fantastic weekend away Katrina x

Ooh did I hear the word barn!! Go for it! (sorry Katrina's husband for encouraging her!). I love barns and that concrete floor you have featured with the scrolly pattern is gorgeous! I agree with A-M, life's too short – if that is what your dream is, then do it!! We can watch and admire via your blog:)~ Tina x

Hi Katrina
I remember you mentioning the idea a few months ago, WONDERFUL!
My younger sister has something along the same line you're thinking, although her's is on a smaller scale. She's an artist and they modelled the house on Art Galleries, in other words one big room with a few small dividing panels to define living spaces, no skirting boards or cornice, shadow molding instead as they do in Art Galleries
It looks stunning and was economical to build
Happy planning

I think you need to change career paths and go interior decorating!

Hope you get to do it one day soon.
Won't get a chance to drop in as we get there late afternoon tomorrow and have to be on base 8.30 Sat. morning then head home again about 2 or 3.

Yes I do get the feeling that I would like to start again however recent circumstances might actually be forcing us to start again and now I'm not so sure! Not sure if that makes sense ha!
