But today I am discussing mirror or pressed metal??

I’ve done both – pressed metal in the last house we built (I painted mine white) and a mirror one in my “The Block” house.

This year on The Block there has been both. Dale and Sophie did pressed metal and the brothers did the mirror…

Which one do you like?

I’m definitely doing mirror in my new house. Love, love, love! 🙂

The mirror is great for making a space look bigger. We are going with a window to the garden splashback – will also require cleaning but love that it will let in more light. I am also planning painted pressed metal for the laundry splashback. melx

I also love the pressed metal, but not sure about mixing traditional with the mirror look.

But if thats what you are doing i am sure i will be wrong.

My personal fab is painted glass splash back – I like mirror and I like window too … pressed metal would tire me day after day – although I do love it on ceilings and bathroom walls 🙂 best le xox

I didn’t realise you’re old place had pressed tin as a splashback. I’ve loved pressed tin forever and been wondering where I could add some to our place. I loved Sophie and Dale’s the other day but immediately thought I’d love to see something similar in white so I love what you’ve done before!!

Whatever you go with will look awesome Katrina 🙂

Hi Katrina! I would do the pressed metal over the mirror. The mirror looks great but would show up every little splash and mark, would be harder to keep clean. Your old kitchen was gorgeous! Happy renovating, Natasha

I just love the pressed metal just wish I’d know about it when I did mine!! I have a rustic country meets modern type kitchen. I love mirror if it’s a modern kitchen but wasn’t a big fan of the last pic with mirror and traditional white cupboards. Anyway I’m sure what ever u do it will look awesomeeeee x

    Hi Katrina
I love the pressed metal look for an industrial edge to a modern kitchen. The mirrored splash back works so well in a modern kitchen as well – too many choices. I renovated my kitchen last year and wanted a pure white glass splash back. The glass company assured me that it would be a true white as I chose ‘whisper white’ by Dulux to be painted on the glass. When I had the splash back installed it was not true to its colour and had a blue/green tinge to it. To cut it short, I did not pay for the splash back as it wasn’t what I wanted. At least with a pressed metal or mirror finish you can be sure the finished product will not change when it is installed, best of luck x

They both do look great! Can’t we just have 2 kitchens so we can have both? I’m not cleaning both though!
I love your old house! What would you say the style is in there? Is it shaker (not sure if this is how it’s spelt?) or Hamptons ? Or is Hamptons not with the dark timber?

How did you find either of the splashbacts to clean? Did you ever cook in ‘The Bock’ house? to see how easy the mirror was to clean and keep clean?

After seeing Dale & Sophie’s this year I fell in love even more with pressed metal but originally I just liked it on the ceiling. I wondered could you combine both together? Having the pressed metal with the glass over the top? I thought the metal maybe hard to keep clean but then I guess it could be argued the mirror could be just as hard.

Hi Katrina, Love your kitchen designs. We have just booked our new kitchen and want a mirror splashback. We have been told there may be imperfections and I am a bit worried. Has anyone had imperfections in their mirrored splashback? I have a large wall in my garden which will be reflected and people have asked me if I am concerned. I love the look but hope this is the right decision. Heeeeelp!

Hi Elizabeth, sounds exciting for you! I love the mirror! I have never heard there will be imperfections. My friend just moved in to her new house 3 weeks ago and did a huge mirror splashback – it looks amazing! The reflection is cool, and it makes the space look enormous. The only thing is that it needs cleaning lots. But for me, that’s not hard to do! Good luck X

Not sure if it is appropriate for me to comment here on not but I sell pressed metal panels. I’ve sold it for hundreds of splash backs and never had one disappointed customer. All you need to do is to wipe it over now and then with a hot soapy dishcloth. It’s not a problem to keep clean.

I want to add a mirror splashback to my stove…but I can't find any place that sells them! I'm looking for specific heat-resistant mirrors suited for the job, of course. Anybody know where in New England these are sold?

You need to go to a glass & mirror place. I go to the one on Broadway near Foss Park.
