Karlie’s Kitchen Makeover thanks to Energy Australia

I finally got around to putting these photos together! If you followed along late last year, Energy Australia was running a competition to give a lucky winner a $30,000 room reno with my help. Karlie entered this kitchen below and won! You can see why she needed a new kitchen. What a deserving winner!

Ooooo it was really ready for a makeover. Karlie and I set up Skype meetings, started texting and emailing each other and got the ball rolling. Karlie was after a traditional, hamptons, white kitchen. This was going to be fun.

These were the mood boards Karlie put together so I could help her make the choices and get the layout right.

Karlie has 4 boys and lives in Swan Hill with her husband. I went to visit her before the reno started and we filmed a some of how we were going to get this to happen! We made all the choices and Karlie found all her tradies and work began…

Some big things had to happen:

  • That fireplace needed to come out
  • The entire kitchen was stripped (lucky it was Summer and they used the outdoor BBQ!)
  • The floors needed to be redone
  • Plumbing and Electrical needed to be added
  • New gyprock and paint
  • New splashback

…..

AND TA DAH!!

The space before was too open and there was no defined area. I convinced Karlie to pop a bench area in for her boys to sit for breakfast and afternoon tea. I also said she’d never regret stone benchtops and while this took a good chunk of her budget I think it’s such a great long term investment.

Now, not only does Karlie’s kitchen look amazing, it’s added value to her home and the energy efficiency is so much better. Just by removing the overhead cupboards, painting everything white and putting in new overhead lighting the whole room is brighter. Brand new appliances with good energy ratings will save power and $$ long term.

Karlie’s kitchen was now transformed! We went back and filmed the reveal…

Learn more about what this means to Karlie and meet her gorgeous family in the video below…

Lovely outcome. Always warming to see normal families get a bit of a boost. I can just see the kids at that bench.
