Interior trends for 2017

Hello! Today I thought I’d put a post together on some interior design trends I see making a splash in 2017. I’m getting in early! Just my opinion though. Of course, you can perceive interiors however you like, but I am seeing these patterns/colours/styles pop up lately and my gut tells me we’ll be crushing hard. Expect to see richer colours, more natural wood and artisanal goodies. Out with the copper and marble, I’m afraid! I didn’t really go with either of those trends, so I am happy 🙂 I am off to buy some terracotta garden pots while they are still so cheap at Bunnings. Ha!

Here are some of the trends…

Terracotta

It was really hard for me to find a terracotta photo I liked because I’m not quite there with this idea yet! Ha. I’ll come round no doubt, but I find it hard to believe it’s coming back in. I do love the rustic terracotta garden pots, but can you believe the colour is coming back in – in the way of tiles? Then I hear copper is going out, so maybe we’ll be doing the matte black, timber and terracotta mixed together? Add in some greenery and that would work.

Dark timbers

Blonde wood has really taken over – we’ve been madly sanding everything in sight. But maybe you should hold on to your darker furniture because it’s on the rise again! 2017 could see the resurgence of richer and darker tones.

Abagail Ahern has been doing dark forever and I am obsessed with her home.

Green

What a gorgeous colour. So rich and works perfectly with the dark timbers mentioned above. It feels old and decadent. The metallic trend is also working well with this colour.

Desert Chic

Well the desert trend certainly goes well with the darker green and terracotta colours so it makes sense that it would be hot right now. This can include prints, cacti and Morrocan patterns.

Simple fabric bedheads

We’ll be bringing the fabric back and replacing the timber. I’d kill for a Heatherly Design bedhead in my house. A neatly covered beadhead in a colour will be a winner in 2017.

See what I did here? Killed two birds with one stone – the green AND the bedhead 😉

Recycling

People are looking for more sustainable furniture and interior ideas. Reusing, repurposing and upcycling will remain a key element. We live in a world immersed in technology and disposable items so people are looking for a balance.

Artisan

Think of tactical patterns like embroidery, felt, knitting, crochet. More handmade items look like they will be prominent in homes (not crafty things as such, but more unique artisanal items).

What do you think? Would you go for these trends?

Or what are some others you think might pop up?

Always nice to see what may be coming up in interiors. I like some but again I think we all adapt our own personalities in there too. The terracotta is interesting though!

Glad I still have my terra cotta tiles on the floor in my bathroom and toilet. Have lovely white subway tiles on the walls.

I’m over the moon about the terra cotta. It means I can hang on to our twenty year old three piece suite for another year .Just can’t bear to get rid as it is so homely and comfy. Love your blog as it is totally inspiring .

Already working on new designs for 2017. I like the colours that are coming through for 2017. The mix with the more rustic look of terracotta and raw ceramics material is exciting, it offers the opportunity for some beautiful forms. Time to start turning sketched ideas into products to show early next year.

A pale pink accent piece is the perfect way to soften things up in any decor scheme.Stylish kitchens and bathrooms will never go out of style. Color combinations of natural colors, juicy color schemes created with bright yellow color shades, golden colors, light and dark brown colors, beige, blue pastels, soft orange, peach and pinkish-orange color hues are modern color trends for home decorating in 2017.

Love the Desert Chic trend and the use of indoor plants. But I too need convincing on terracotta in the form of tiles

Love your style and all those simple lovely details. So cozy. Amm, i want to ask about those windows. I have really large windowa i really need to cover them because i have not great neighbors. I was thinking about vertical window blinds for large windows. Do you have some examples? I looked some desings online https://homedcorhq.com/small-house-interior-design-ideas/ . What do you think?
