If you’re after a really simple project that will take minutes then make your own reed diffuser. Plus it’s cheap! Store bought reed diffusers are often filled with synthetic and hormone disrupting fragrance so making your own low-tox version is a winner.

How to

  • I bought the jar and reeds here. But you could use any narrow style jar – like a beaker or glass bottle. Kmart have reeds (in prepacked diffusers) cheap as chips, so you could use their bottle and reeds, just make your own low-tox fragrance.
  • 50 drops of essential oil. I used doTERRA’s Citrus Bliss which makes the colour yellow, so you can change that to suit you.
  • 1/4 cup of a carrier oil. I used doTERRA’s Fractionated Coconut Oil.
  • 1 tablespoon of witch hazel water (will mix the oils together). Buy that from the supermarket for $5. I use that in many of my recipes so it’s handy to have.

Flip the reeds around a few times over the week so they absorb the scent. This home-made diffuser works best in small areas like bathrooms.
