Here we go with the outdoor spaces on House Rules. To be fair to you all, I didn’t get to watch much this week so I am just seeing these reveals for the first time myself. Outdoors spaces are often an afterthought for most people when renovating. We’re too busy thinking of tiles, floors and paint colours to worry about landscaping. And then when we get around to the outdoor area most of us think turf, some hedges, a table and that will have to do. The budget has mostly been sucked dry! So, in these reality tv reveals I like to see what’s achieved when they have an even amount of cash to pull something off. You can see below that there is a lot going on… sponsors (who supplied indoor furniture) were providing stuff for outside too so in comes odd throw rugs, cushions, artwork and glass pendant lights…

Take a look at part 1 of the backyard reveals…

Toad and Mandy (Mel and Dave’s pool area)

Kim and Michelle (Mel and Dave’s other zones)

Jess and Jared (Josh and Brandon’s zones)

Chiara and David (Josh and Brandon’s pool area)

I’ll let you guys makes up your own minds about these. While the overall improvements on these yards were amazing they were totally impractical as I expected. All the decking is gorgeous but the maintenance isn’t fun all the time. I have a deck and I love it, but it needs care often. There was just so much STUFF and all I can think of is dust, rain, frost and fading furniture. I’d never pack it up and unpack it all the time.

What did you think??

You can see the previous renos here and meet the contestants here.
