It has been said that cushions are the lipstick of home wares. They can turn a drab and unfinished lounge room into a stylish space at the flick of a wrist. Just like trying to find the perfect lipstick shade amongst the infinite colours available, cushion shopping can be a daunting task. Here are some tips on how to style your cushions from Temple & Webster.
• Step back to get a wider view of your lounge room, taking note of any colours or patterns that reoccur. Is there an artwork on the wall or a rug on the floor that can guide your choice about cushion colour? Use this as the starting point and focus on 3 main colours.
• Create a visually pleasing group of cushions by breaking up patterned cushions with block colour styles. A no-fail way to make this work is to draw a feature colour out from your patterned cushions and alternate feature colour block cushions and patterned cushions in the arrangement on your lounge.
• Consider the texture of your cushions like the ones above. If your space is casual and relaxed, explore chunky knitted covers and textural cottons. Lush velvet and satin cushions work well in a glam room and add to the sparkle.
• And just like lipstick, if you go too heavy on the cushions, things can start to look messy. If you can comfortably sit on the lounge without having to excavate rows of cushion, then you are onto a good thing.
How do you style your cushions? Have any tips for me?

I love cushions! But I do find my girls don’t appreciate them as they are always on the floor as opposed to on the couch!
