Thanks for coming over to my blog! Today I have handed the stage over to Laney fromΒ Crash Test Mummy. She has written a great post giving us 3 steps to motivate yourself. For the next couple of Saturday’s I have a guest blogger who will give us a post based around the themeΒ MOTIVATION. If you need a little kick up the bum or want to know how people stay motivated across all topics then these Saturday posts are for you. If you think you canΒ write me something on motivation, how to get motivated, when life throws you lemons, how to get out of a rut, what gets you going, shake of negative energy… anything like that, thenΒ email me!

Ok, now here is Laney…

Simple 3 Step Plan for Motivation

What do we mean when we say “I need some motivation?”

Motivation is really about taking action, which usually means making a change in our behaviour. Sometimes it is really easy to take the necessary action because the motivation is so big! For example, your latest credit card bill is maxed out, so you need sort out your finances out – now! (Ask me how I know!).

Other times the need to change comes from within. You might feel a bit sluggish and unhappy with your weight. But maybe the desire to change isn’t quite as big as the effort required to do it!

Or maybe you’re motivated to take action but you find it difficult to keep going. Bet that one sounds familiar!

Well, I’ve figured out how to motivate myself, regardless of the situation. The trick is knowing whether you can do it on your own, or whether you need a little outside help.

Crash Test Mummy’s simple 3 step plan to motivation

Goals

Set a goal to give yourself something to work towards. For me, my goal is pretty much not to crash and burn again. It’s not very specific I know, but it keeps me on the right track and I know the signs to look out for. You could say the more specific the goal the better, but be careful not to be unrealistic. There is nothing worse than setting your self up to fail.

Incentives

Do you respond well to rewards? Maybe you are happy with setting yourself little rewards like a massage once you’ve managed to go for a run every week for 3 weeks. Or maybe you know you need a bit more outside help, for example, entering a writing competition or training for an event.

Accountability

This is my secret weapon. I hate to fail or let anyone down, so public accountability is a pretty big motivator. This is why I started blogging. If I told my readers I was going to do something, then I better do it! You don’t need a blog for accountability. Perhaps you can tell a friend what you’re trying to achieve so you don’t just resign to failing in secret!

Can you motivate yourself, or do you need a little outside help? πŸ˜‰

She firmly maintains that when it comes to life as a Stay At Home Mum she is not the expert, she’s the experiment! To help her recover from adrenal fatigue, Laney started a blog to motivate her to crash test solutions to her problems rather than despair about them. Everything from organising the house, improving her health, and fun activities for the kids is fair game for crash testing.

After reading the post I remembered one of my favorite quote by Zig Ziglar which I have read long time ago –

β€œPeople often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing–that’s why we recommend it daily.”

Thanks Laney for the nice post. Keep motivating πŸ™‚

Thanks for having me on the blog yesterday Katrina. I was missing in action on the longest day at the races ever! Up at 5am and home at 11pm. My phone battery did not last the day!

I’m having a quiet day of goal setting today. I Quit Sugar starts in a week and I want to make sure we’re ready for it!

    Hi Katrina,
I was just looking on eBay and saw a listing I thought you might love, Chevy signs etc. Just type in signs and it will be on the first page as sign collection. Hope you get this message as it finishes tomorrow.

Love the term “public accountability”, really it is a big motivator. These three tips are simple but should be recalled always.

Thanks Laney for motivating me πŸ™‚

    Awesome post!
Of course most people respond really well to rewards. It is the best motivation I know. Personally, it has a positive effect on me and because of that positivity, it reflects on the outcome of my work.
Aside from the 3 step plan above; what also keeps me motivated is a time tracking tool. It doesn’t only makes me stay motivated but this tool also helps me boost my productivity. πŸ™‚
