Don’t you hate it when your towels just don’t smell fresh? It’s not usually until you start to dry yourself when you realise they need re-washing!

Maybe you want to freshen up some old towels, or you’d like to really kill any dirt/bacteria trapped in your towels? It’s easy peasy and here’s how…

Instructions:

If you have a hot cycle on your washing machine, use this and add 1 cup of white vinegar to the load.

Do not use a powder/detergent or anything (no bleach!). Just hot water and the vinegar. Let the washer do its job. However, if you are like me and don’t have the hot water hooked up to your machine (I decided not to do this when we built the house because you really only need to wash in cold), then you will need to fill up your sink with very hot water (be really careful!) and then add the vinegar to the sink. Give it a swish (use a spatula or something so you don’t burn yourself).

If you do use the sink, you’ll need to transfer the towels to your machine to spin (don’t add any detergent, just spin it).

Then, if you think the towels still smell a little bit, rewash with just hot water and 1/2 cup of bi-carb soda. Again, no detergent, just the baking soda and hot water.

When your towels are done, throw them in the dryer to kill any germs still lingering – the heat will help you do this.

And then you’re done! They should be free of any bad smells. The vinegar should also bring the fluffiness back. If you also want them to smell super fresh (maybe you can impress your visitors with the best towels they’ve ever had!), then add a few drops of an essential oil in the wash.
