Dressing teen boys on a budget this Summer

Yesterday I went shopping for my big boy. Thankfully he now fits in to men's sizing because the clothes out there for boys in sizes 10-16 is woeful. Yesterday I went shopping for my big boy. Thankfully he now fits in to men’s sizing because the clothes out there for boys in sizes 10-16 is woeful. Both my other boys are in that bracket and we struggle to get anything trendy (without spending a fortune). If you have boys you’ll know how quickly they grow! So whilst I like them to choose clothes they feel good in, I don’t have hundred and hundreds of dollars to spread across my 3 boys each season. It’s hard enough buying joggers, footy boots, school shoes etc… and rarely do we get one year out of them – sometimes it’s 2 pairs of joggers a year!

Anyway, now that Cruise (who is almost 13) can fit in to the men’s sizes, we can go nuts in the big chain stores like Cotton On, Factorie and Jay Jays. I love their deals like 2 t-shirts for $30 etc.

Here’s what my big boy will be rocking this Summer and below are the links. You won’t be spending a fortune either!

Clearly the burgundy, navy and wheat colours are in!

Have you found any cool cheap shops for the tweens? Or maybe you can help me with other clothes for my little kids?!

Happy Shopping ♥ KC.

Katrina, my son is 13 and just into mens sizes too. I found it really hard getting jeans to fit because everything is so long. I ended up getting size 12 ladies skinny jeans from Kmart…and they’re perfect! I just cut the tag off so he doesn’t know..

My 12 year old has just topped me in height and is cuddly so wears it’s his second season in men’s sizing. I remember with my daughters, there was a growth spurt between 12 and 14 that was unprecedented and although they grew like topsy height wise, they just stretched so fitted into the same size clothes for two years running! Anywho that’s just info. I always bought a small but exy wardrobe for my eldest because I could do the hand me down thing with the better quality gear, buying cheaper top ups for the second daughter. With one son I’ve found the better quality stuff lasts better, washes better more frequently and I on sell on eBay recouping 20 – 30% of outlay, making country road and the big surf labels just as affordable as target! $70 CR or Billabong shorts selling on eBay after one season’ swear for $40. Just my experience though.

Oh I hear you…my 11 year old still in kids gear but the poor 12 year old ???? Just into sm mens gear – I love Cotton On for him (I also noticed Seed Teens has opened, up to size 16 so I will investigate), I got some Missoni for Target shorts the other day which he thought were cool. I like your options above – will show them to him…

Noticing the void in boys clothes above size 12 but what I’ve found worse is the shoes! My eleven year old has a size 8 mens foot and the price of mens shoes compared to children’s is ridiculous. Clearly I need to be a better bargain hunter …..
