Brought to you by Beacon Lighting.
A few weeks ago I popped down to Melbourne for the day to attend a lunch hosted by my lovely friend (and ex- The Block contestant) Jenna Denston. Jenna and her husband Josh are ambassadors of Beacon Lighting and I was looking forward to sitting down to an intimate lunch with some other bloggers and instagrammers to chat about all things lighting. Beacon Lighting released a new catalogue recently and I couldn’t wait to see what was new and happening.
Lunch was gorgeous at The Botanical in South Yarra. Beacon had decked out the space with some of their new range, plus a lamp for each of us to take home. Lucky me.
Beacon Lighting holds an incredibly comprehensive product range and the most illuminating instore experience. Some of Beacon Lighting’s buyers were with us at lunch. They travel the world in search of the very latest styles, trends and innovations so what you see in their showrooms are the most up- to-date designs. By travelling the globe and attending the Milan Fair, Maison & Objet and the Hong Kong Lighting Fair, the buying team gains inspiration to create their own designer product range, right here in Australia.
Jenna asked the group lots of questions about lighting and where we think it’s heading. Here are a few take away points I gathered to share with you…
People still don’t think lighting is a number one priority when building a new house or renovating. Which is a real shame. Jenna is making it her mission to get clients to think more about each room of their home and design a lighting plan, rather than just rely on what the electrician suggests.
Lighting should not be an after thought. Think about how you will be using each room and tailor a lighting plan to suit. It was highly suggested to ditch the rows and rows of downlights. Who needs downlights in a bedroom? Or a living room where you’ll spend the evenings chilling and watching tv? Ambiance wins over heavily lit areas ALL THE TIME.
Consider lamps, floor lamps, pendants and wall lights instead of harsh overhead lights.
Cords are ok! They are just a cord, so no need to freak out if you can see them.
Black, copper and brass is still featuring heavily. Scandi isn’t going anywhere. It’s such an easy style to achieve and you don’t need packets of money to get this look in your home.
Glass is a good option for pendants if you don’t want to chop your room up. Can you put pendants over a kitchen island and then also over the dining? The consensus was this always depends on how far away they are from each other, and the sizing. It might be better to pick a slimmer, long pendant over the island if you want a huge statement over your dining.
Beacon sees lighting as one of the most crucial design decisions, and rightly so. It can be used to zone spaces, add visual interest and switch up the mood in a room.
Lamps and pendants are an important part of the design mix, as they add personality and give you the chance to easily update your interior with the latest trends.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]
Some of my favourites from the new Beacon Lighting catalogue…

I bought this for some clients during the week. They are gorgeous and come in a range of colours.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”46850″ img_size=”medium”][vc_column_text]LEDlux Blakely Floor Lamp $179.
Understated, sleek and suits a range of decor styles. It’s dimmable too.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”46851″ img_size=”medium”][vc_column_text]Aksel 1 Light Wall Bracket in Brass/Clear $129.
I am so in love with these wall lights! They come in black too. Just perfect.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]I was lucky enough to take home the NORWAY lamp in teak. It was a good chance to tidy up my office to show off this little beauty.
I am always a fan of natural, industrial or matte finishes so this lamp suits my office space perfectly.
Make sure you check out the new catalogue, or head in store to soak up the full lighting experience!
