Last week I spoke at a Women in Business event alongside another guest speaker. Her name was Danielle and she’s a psychologist in Sydney. She had me hook, line and sinker with her speech. She takes science and turns it in to little pieces of wisdom…

Danielle gave us a few ‘lessons’ that night and one of them has stuck with me over the last week – Bad is stronger than good. Sounds strange? Let me explain…

Our brains are automatically programmed to think of the bad things before the good things (Danielle explained why our brains do this – read  her blog post here). Danielle used a few analogies and one was about spending a Friday night putting together Ikea furniture. Sounds horrendous doesn’t it? She said her neighbours visited the next day and asked how their Friday night was… Danielle started with the horror, mishaps and struggles they had whilst putting furniture together. Soon she realised her brain started with the BAD things, when really it wasn’t that bad. It wasn’t fun, but it wasn’t the worst thing because when it was done they had new furniture afterall!

So this quote had me thinking… we have a habit of thinking of the bad stuff before we think of the good don’t we? Another example is when we’ve had a weekend away and one thing goes bad… usually we’ll think of this before we think of the good. So Danielle talked about how thinking about the good BEFORE the bad will help us live a more fulfilling, healthy and productive life. She’s dead right. This week I have taken this on board and I’ve been thinking about good things first. Good things and manifestation have been my mantra’s this week! 🙂

Here is a better explanation and example of the Bad is stronger than good theory.

If you hadn’t guessed by now, I am a huge fan of little bits of wisdom, sayings and motivational quotes. In another lifetime I think I want to be a psychologist!! 🙂

In other news, I am off to Sydney tomorrow for this. Escape Travel is announcing their travel family and I’m in the running. I need a nervous toilet stop every time I think about it!!! I am soooo excited and can’t wait to hear who the winner is and I get to meet a couple of blogging buddies.

My eldest child has his rugby league Grand Final on Saturday. There is so much footy talk in the house this week. We’re so pumped and excited! I am already chewing my fake nails. It will be a big day for us. They won last year so we’re praying for a repeat of events!

I also bought a new car. My time with my Ford Territory ended… boo hoo 🙁 BUT, I bought a Ford Kuga. It’s a very clever car. You must check it out if you can!

This song is on high rotation in our house. You have kids under the age of 12? Is it on repeat at your house too?

Over and out for the rest of the week – I’ll be back in a couple of days. You can catch me on Twitter and Instagram no doubt! xx

PS. I’ve had a couple of giveaways over the last few weeks. Are you a winner of this and this? Winners were announced in the comments.

Good luck tomorrow, we all know they should choose you. By the way I adore the little pink owl on your coffee table.
Have a great weekend and hope your footy mad boy comes home with a win.

You know what, I was only saying to a couple of Year 8 girls at school today that we often tend to focus on the negative in our life, and that we need to be mindful of our habits and retrain our brains to see the goodness in life, and that when we do that, the negative (thoughts / situations / people) will have less of an impact on us – clearly I was channelling you!! x

Just letting you know-I’ve been having trouble accessing links from your blog the last few day. When I hover over the links within blogs the cursor stays as an arrow, and I can’t click. I use a Mac, and it’s been Safari, and then I checked with Chrome. On this post and the Juju post at least (which I have clicked through before). x
