I had the little red mark for about 2 years on and off. It would heal then come back. I was always covering it with makeup. I had it frozen off twice, but it was still there. I won’t know what it was until I go back to see the Doctor on Thursday. In 2009 I had a basal cell carcinoma on my forehead which had to be cut out twice (because they didn’t get it all the first time). Hopefully it’s not another one…
It’s not sore.. it just looks yucky.
Better to get rid of it though. This is because I was a sun-worshipper when I was a teenager! I came to my senses about 12 years ago and am scared of the sun now. I wear sunscreen every day and lather my kids in it. If you have any spots on your skin which are red, itchy, flakey… then get them checked!

I am glad it’s healing up so well. That must have hurt so much! I’ve had things chopped off too, being a Queenslander. I never never ever wore sunscreen because it used to sting my skin and only the teachers’ pets wore hats, not me ever! And I was in the Queensland sun every day playing sport. All a bit of a worry. It’s good we now know to cover our kids with sunscreen and hats! Mx

Just wondering if you go to your normal GP or a dermatologist? I have a similar mark on my face and my GP(who does skin scans etc) didnt seem concerned. They are so quick when they do the skin checks I fear they are not having a proper look and skin cancers run in my family. I live in wagga too, if their anyone you recommend?

I too am in the process of having a couple frozen on my neck, and had one off my chest last year. I have been expecting them all over, as I was a sun worshipper too, crazy, and my skin is so fair.Im allergic to the sun in the first few weeks, if I dont ease into it gradually, I break out in a hot raised and red rash on my arms, feet, chest, it is horrible!
My parents constantly reminded me to put sunscreen on, but baby oil heled to get a tan so much quicker!
Hope yours heals quick for you.

Just had this very same conversation with my husband on Friday night. His family have a very long track record with basal cell carcinoma and he has had one removed. I told him it was time to get them checked again. I will be watching my girls like a hawk as they get older and will continue to make sure they are smothered in sunscreen. A timely reminder for everyone though. Hope it heals well for you.

Skin cancers are bad, I have had a dozen bits and moles cut out of me, as I am fair skinned and love the water. I visit doctors every six months and have liquid nitrogen blash my body…I need it….just becareful of the sun and use sunblock, lots of hats, sunnies and sunblock!!

Great advice. I too had a BCC removed from my leg 12 months ago and at the same time had a mole removed from my neck which turned out to be melanoma. 40 stitches later they got it all but the scary thing is that I hadn’t even been there a year and didn’t look suspect at all!!! Being fair skinned I never was a sun worshipper and always cover up. I hope it heals quickly and the diagnosis is good ))) all the best
Heather
Good luck with the results. I hope all is fine!

That looks nasty Katrina. I had a skin check with my GP last week and am getting two moles removed from my foot on Monday. My mum had one taken off the end of her nose a few months ago and its taking ages to heal but better than the alternative as melanoma is such an aggressive cancer. Fingers crossed yours is nothing major.
Enjoy the holidays with your boys.

Hi Katrina,
I hope you & your gang are all well. I remembered seeing this post months ago, when it was just another interesting read. Now it’s a matter of great importance. I’m about to have a 1cm bcc cut from between my nose & top lip, and I’m a bit terrified. I’ve chosen to get it done in the dr’s surgery rather than by a plastic surgeon and will have a local flap covering the cut rather than a graft. Would you mind sharing a few things please – how did you care for your cut afterwards so that it healed well? And what products do you recommend using now for protection and coverage? I hope yours has healed totally by now & that you haven’t had any other little surprises since. Thanks so much for this, Al.
