Christmas decoration grinch

I think I’m the Christmas decoration Grinch.

I love Christmas (mostly). Well I love it for the kids! Ha ha! But I am not a big fan of all of the decorations. The tree goes up mid-December and comes down Boxing Day. I let the kids decorate the tree and everything is on one side and the front. But most of them end up on the ground. I hate tinsel with a passion. We have 3 singing Santa dogs and a rock ‘n’ roll Santa  We also have a few little trees full of glitter and that ends up everywhere  The kids even sticky taped a row of fairy lights to the top of the tv! I’m drowning here. But I’m also grinning and bearing it – for them. I look in the magazines and see gorgeous homes decorated. I long for those, but in reality it will never look like that. My boys wreck everything and they don’t care about the decorations being neat and in place… BUT THEY ARE SO HAPPY WITH IT ALL! 😉

Here’s what I love about Christmas:

♥ The kids think it’s the best time in the world

♥ I get to eat delicious food

♥ My husband gets a holiday

Here is my baby singing (last Christmas, omg he’s grown up so much since then, but I could watch this over and over!). I love THIS about Christmas…

Here’s what I hate about Christmas:

♥ Decorations are so messy and overwhelming

♥ I am totally broke

♥ It’s hot

♥ I eat too much ham and pavlova

♥ The kids turn feral

♥ School holidays are too long

♥ The kids refuse Santa photos so I won’t have this kind of photo to tease them with…

This year we are heading away on our own for Christmas Day. We’ve had a really big year. A lot of ups and downs and we wanted a break, together on our own. That’s what we love about Christmas – just us. We hate the fuss and the big parties. We want Christmas to be about the 5 of us – no one else, no messy decorations, no cooking, no hangovers. I hate it when Christmas becomes about money and pleasing people… So this year (like we did 2 years ago), we’ll wake up on Christmas morning on the beach in a little house just with the 5 of us and we’ll have hot chips for lunch. We’ll fish in the boat, we’ll call our families and we’ll be in bed by 8.30pm. That’s what I love about Christmas!

What do you love about Christmas?

Have a great weekend everyone. We’re off to Amie’s house today. I’ll instagram the day! X

My little boys have bought trees (at least 3 I think) and decorations from and op shop and some lights and have done Christmas in their bedroom- looks tragic but they love it! It makes me happy because then they leave the rest of the house for me!

I am so with you on all of this. We are cutting back on everything this year, my dad passed away 3 mths ago, so mum wants no fuss, few gifts etc etc. Our tree went up last night .. and will come down again straight after Christmas. My son comes home today for 3 weeks YAY (the only thing I am looking forward too) I hate the heat, the fuss, the ‘too much food’ and the over spending .. this year hopefully I have control over everything but the heat.
Enjoy the beach, sounds heaven to me, i long to have just us 4 for Christmas and hot chips and no fuss .. Merry Christmas to you and your family Katrina 🙂

OH MY GOSH He’s adorable!!!!!!!! As mum to 8 sons (and only 2 daughters) I hear ya on the ‘son’ front. Boys are messy and loud and just plain don’t care. Near enough is good enough and they go from one room to another on a search and destroy mission!!!! NOTHING is safe or sacred – god help me! I have to have the patience of a saint! Literally! So many years I have grinned (and bore) the messy tree issue, and I’m good with it now, I don’t care. For the most part anyway! 😉 Some days I care more than others. This year I decorated (on Halloween – eager much???), while they were all at school and they came home so excited, EYES WIDE WITH WONDER!!!! I LURVE Christmas with a passion, but I REGRET all the decorations when it’s time to put them away! And especially this year as we are being forced to move…yay! lol

I remember you had those decorations up so early!!! Hahaha. I wouldn’t be able to stand them. 🙂

Usually I wait til Dec 1 to put it up but I was a tad eager this year!!! Maybe it’s knowing we’ll be moving and this will be our last Christmas in this, our family home 🙁 Oh well, onward and upward to whatever is next… BUT I can promise you, on Boxing Day or the day after they are coming down! Unless we go camping, in which case it may be a week later, but I need to pack them all up and have them away in preparation for the move!

My younger chicken doesn’t like Santa Claus either, refuses to even walk near him in the department stores. The only photographs we have of him with Santa Claus were when he was 2 and 3 years old and in the photographs you can see he just wants to get away! I used to love seeing Santa Claus when I was a child and I used to give him my “Christmas Present List” that I had had someone write out for me to give him! I always used to get the present that was on the top of that list on Christmas Day and my parents used to always say, Santa Claus read the list! great memories! Mxx

Last year on 16 November we went on a 10 week road trip. Just the 4 of us. This meant we were 3,500+ kms away from home in a Margaret River caravan park on Christmas Day and it was an amazing day. Went to the Margaret River resort and ate, drank and the kids played in the pool. This year the kids are stuffed, tired, exhausted but still love the social side of things. Me? I’d rather be sunning myself in the Margaret River region. Oh well. Enjoy your Christmas Day away.

I am the same with my decorations, especially this year and I LOVE your idea of Christmas day this year. I wish I could do the same – just hide away from the world on my own with my three boys, but I felt too sad for my boys as I knew they’d rather be with my extended family and around their cousins. Your Christmas sounds perfect to me 🙂

I have been reading your posts Lisa about Christmas this year. I really hope you have a lovely, quiet and peaceful time. I’ll be thinking of you. X

Thanks so much Katrina. It means a lot to me that you check up on us and see how we are going. Have a lovely Christmas.

We do that every year too Katrina. Just the five of us, but at home. No driving, no visiting…just the kids playing all day while Jason and I polish a good bottle of champagne and prepare a delicious lunch. Bliss. xx

By the way, that is an awfully cute photo of you and Ames!!!

  • Kazzie

*sigh* Can I come with you?

I’m the same … don’t like all this fuss and socialising… so boring! I asked my side of the family for a change of venue and things, but they were horrified at the suggestion of what they say of altering a long-held tradition. *sigh*

We have gone against tradition this year and have put a few noses out in the process, but I don’t care, it’s our christmas. We are having my Parents and brother over for lunch and then for something completely different and new, we are going out to a restaurant for dinner 🙂 No cooking or washing up, instead I can Frock up and enjoy the night with my little family of four. More importantly, the kids are super excited and can’t wait to wear their new clothes 🙂
